Painter Recommendations

Does anyone have any good recommendations for painters for the outside of the house?

I can tell you *not* to use Jon Miller. We had a horrible time with them. Not the job they did, but their estimate was less than half what they ended up charging for just a fraction of the work they were supposed to do for us.

 

Paradise Construction - Christian - 703-481-2900. Took them a little less than 3 days and paint looks great!

 

I second Kris' Painting service. We had our exterior done by him earlier this summer and they did a great job. Only issue was pushing our date back because of rainy weather. We'll call him again for sure.

Make that three for Kris' Painting Service. Very thorough, precise, quick and professional.

 

David Allen from Allen's Quality Painting at 703-403-0606. Did the inside of our home last winter, and just a few months ago the outside as well. Did a great job, very happy, and extremely reasonably priced.

 

For those that have recommended Kris.... did Kris actually do the work or was there a crew? If the latter, how much oversight did he provide (time spent at your house)?

Kris does do some work but his crews do most of the work as he concentrates on new business. For us, he did the measurements and quote. He was there with the crew on the scheduled day for almost 2 hours making sure they got setup and identifying the scope (what walls/what colors) of the job. He assisted with taping but mostly interacted with us for answering questions.

 

Kris came and did our estimate and on the day of painting, he was here with his crew in the morning. Then stopped back by later in the afternoon to check on them. He came by as they were finishing up on the 2nd day and made sure everything was cleaned up and that I was satisfied with everything.

 

We used Mark Lewis and were THRILLED! Excellent quality, very friendly, showed up on time and have the lowest estimate by far. We had a couple of rooms done with custom faux finishes (one is the ventian plaster and came out stunning) and I regret not finding him sooner!

He did it all himself and I don't think you can find better.

 

This is exactly how Kris handled our job. The crew was excellent, and what's great about 4 guys doing the work is that it's finished in no time. We had every single wall in our TH painted and it took 2 days. THey worked like 12 hours each day (I was all for this!!). The crew leader's name was Joel- all of them were very meticulous about the job.

 

I am reading a lot of interior jobs here...
what about the exterior of your home? Did any of you have the exterior done? and who is the best company for that job?
We need to have our home painted on the outside.

 

My question WAS the outside of the house and thanks to everyone for all your recommendations. My husband contacted Kris and he came over right away with an estimate - very reasonable. He hasn't started the job yet as we have been on vacation, but we are hiring him for the outside painting.

I just wanted to make sure I got the right information...
This is very timely discussion because we would like to get this done in the Fall... I guess I should start calling now.
We are planning on selling in our "empty nest" in March.

 

Those making recommendations: Did these painters also do good prep work? Fixing nail/screw pops, recaulking around crown moulding, sanding out imperfections, priming all surfaces?

Also, did you have them do any trim work?

I'd be interested to know more details - as I'm really picky about the quality of the work. I'm prepared to pay a fair price for outstanding quality...

Our work was all exterior but yes, they sanded, replaced some rotting wood, and caulked. Very thorough and professional.
