FYI: A call from our area to Manassas is always considered local long distance. As much as Open Band has issues, it wouldn't matter which phone company you used. It's been that way for at least 25 years. Trust me, my parents made me pay for my long distance calls to my boyfriend when I was a teenager. :)

I CAN'T STAND THIS NEW TRASH COMPANY!!! I really miss the old one. It's after 8pm and most of Southern Walk still has trash on the street. This is ridiculous! I called to complain to Patriot (thanks for the number) as well as the HOA. These guys aren't even courteous when you try to speak to them. The NV guys were great! We generously tipped them every Christmas, and they would always walk our trash can up the driveway after emptying it just to show their appreciation. Now that's service.

    Please bring NV back.

Yeah, what's with the late pickup? Isn't there a cutoff on how late they can be in the neighborhood? Not good that trash is out sitting on the curb all day waiting to affected by wind, rain, and varmints (WV term).

I saw the trucks out on the street when I came home at 8:15pm.
When there is a missed pick-up due to a holiday, the next pickup generally runs late due to the amount of trash. This was true with New Vision and AAA.
They should generally be done with all pickups by 6pm. If you are regularly not picked up until later, please call the HOA Office to let them know. That is a problem they will need to address.

We had no problems, the trash was picked up by the time I got home at 415 yesterday here in SW.

I noticed that Patriot has been later too, but I also noticed they do a nicer job of putting the trashcans back near the house, flipping over the recycle bins. I think those little steps take extra time and are worth the wait.

A new company will most likely have a different pick up rotation.
New Vision never got to my street until late afternoon. Patriot is usually here by 9am.

In my opinion, Patriot is far superior compared to the previous contractors. Unfortunately, and as stated in a previous post, they have to deal with broken equipment, labor shortages, and landfill closures.

Just last week, they had one driver and only one person collecting the trash. I felt badly for him and I hope he didn't walk off the job at the end of the day!

I have seen the trash collector pick up stray pieces of garbage from bags that were haphazardly tossed on the curb, unsecured, and then scavaged overnight by the raccoons. Meanwhile, the offending owner walked past the shrewn trash, got into his car and went to work. What pigs!

My recycling bin is always flipped over after emptied and placed where I left it and not randomly tossed where convenient.

So far, I have no complaints.

I for one - think they're doing a great job....it's not an easy job to do in all kinds of weather.....I applaud them and they're SO MUCH better than New Vision!

Our pick-up service has not been very good. Our area of SW doesn't get picked up until nearly 5:00 PM. Last night was 8:15 PM and I understand the lost day etc however, there is no excuse for the garbage to sit out all day every day as has been the case. I am not sure what the motivation was for the switch (maybe there is a savings, not that the HOA fees reflect any) or perhaps its that they have a more robust recycling program. It is great to see that they will pick up more recylclables than the previous service provider but they should focus on getting the garbage picked up in a more timely manner. This will be a long and smelly summer at this rate.

I have a question about the recycling program - based on what was published in the HOA magazine, it said that Patriot would recycle computers, monitors, small electronics, etc. I put a monitor out yesterday, and the recycling left it, while the garbage picked it up. Shoudln't it have been picked up with the recycling?

The savings are that your HOA fee did NOT go up. First AAA and then NV wanted to significantly raise the rates, hence Patriot.

As for the pickup time, not every street can be early. Each company has their routes that they run and they stick by them. Typically, AAA was mid day, NV was early, Patriot is late morning.

As for the smell, if you bag your trash it should not really be an issue. If it is then again, it should not be an issue as it is curbside during pickup days. :conf2:

"You know you live in the Broadlands when..."

    - Your biggest problem is what time your trash is picked up.

    - Your second biggest problem is dog urine on a lawn.

    :)

3rd biggest - no where to get an honest review of restaurants in the area. No independents, no blogs, no forums... :D

Do you maybe have to give them special notification so that there's a place for these things to go since they can't go with the "normal" recyclables?
