a4- you are SERIOUS about cleaning up his neighborhood- i love it! ok so I won't scoop poop MYSELF (ankle surgery- I'm out for at least 2 more months, whew!) but I will happily volunteer my 9 year old to be a part of this community mission, and I bet I'm not the only parent who would have their dog walking kiddo do the same.

not to keen on the leash idea only b/c I like my comfy retractable for my little Jack Russell, and big dog owners may need special leashes for controlling their animals.

this may have to wait for spring when A) participation is higher, and B) the smell will be easier to find offending piles.

But the registration can happen in the next month if we really work together--- all you dog owning lurkers on this thread- WHAT SAY YOU?!?!?

Get a grip. Comparing dog poop to missing children is ludicrous.
I am curious....how many children have been found because their picture was on a milk carton?
If you remain passionate about this issue, I encourage you to bring your ideas to the HOA Board.

I wish that I knew where you all lived, because my house backs up to one of the busiest roads in the Broadlands. In my 7 years here, I have only had about 4 or 5 "presents" left on my property. Also, I walk my dog daily for the past 2 years, and have only seen about 12 "presents" around the walks of the community.

There are only two possible explanations:
    1. You all are surrounded by rude neighbors who don't ever clean up their dogs' poops.
    or (more likely)
    2. This topic is being dominated by Obsessive Compulsives whose current obsession is dog feces.

We have a neighbor across Glebe View from us (we are on a corner lot and they are across the street). They neh-ver clean up their dog's poops. They regularly walk their dog by our house and let it poop on our grass, so we started bagging it up (using the poop bags from the bag dispenser that is easily accessible to them... at the common area right smack across the street from both of us).
We set their doggie's bagged poops next to their mail box, so now they have finally gotten the idea to start walking their dog on our lawn when we are not around or they go across the street and let their dog poop in the common area. Right next to the poop bag dispenser (go figure) They do not clean up the poops. Sometimes they take their dog into the woods and let it poop next to the trails. We have seen this as we have gone walking behind them.

    This annoys me.
I feel like posting their address here or something .... but I won't. Sometimes in the mornings, they let their dog out the front door and send it across the street to our yard to do his morning business.

We are sickkkkkk of this ignorant and rude behavior.
They do not seem that friendly so we have not confronted them...
They probably would just ignore us.

Take a picture of them when you see them do this or better yet a video and give them a copy with a note.

I would catch the dog (if not a man-eater!) since it is off it's leash and call the County. That would end that habit rather quickly I bet.

    Hi,
Would the "Concerned Southern Walk Dog Owner" who posted admonitions to dog-walkers all over the neighborhood please be a responsible citizen and clean them up? By using the wrong kind of paper and the wrong kind of fasteners considering the inclement weather, there is now a serious litter/unsightliness issue. It really looks bad to be walking or driving down the street and see half-fastened illegible pieces of paper flapping wetly in the breeze, hanging onto the stop-sign posts by the tenuous scraps that remain attached.
Please consider in the future using a heavier stock of paper, say cardstock or oaktag, and perhaps reinforcing them where you intend to staple them so they don't fall apart in the rain. Also, you should be sure the staples you use are rated for use (a) outdoors and (b) in treated lumber. Otherwise they will quickly cause unsightly rust stains thanks to chemical interaction of the metal staple and the chemicals in the treated lumber.
You do get points for using a laser printer and not a bubble- or inkjet, though. The printouts didn't streak or smear at all.

    Thank you.

you will be surprised to hear that even though i am very active in this thread- i have NEVER had a dog poop in my yard! i live in a pipe stem with two petless neighbors and am also protected by a grove(?) of trees that shield us from the walking path, so we get ZERO uninvited traffic.

but i do walk my dog thru the neighborhood and on the paths, and would never be so inconsiderate as to leave his droppings behind. i don't even let him poop IN yards, just the side curb grass strips if i can't get him to a more public patch of grass b4 he's ready to go.

why are concerned neighbors considered obsessed just b/c we care about a small issue that can enhance the neighborghood for eveyrone who walks, runs and plays outside? no it's not curing brain cancer, but it's making our neighborhood a better place to be if it's improved.
Mr. Rogers, you care to be here a LOT for someone whodoesn't care... just an observation...:)

I too have never seen dog feces on my property even though about 50% of the surrounding houses have dogs. In my walks around the neighborhood I have rarely seen dog excrement. Although I agree that there does seem to be a high number of OCD people on this forum and this thread in particular, the problem might be far worse in areas of our neighborhood where the housing is denser (Zero lot lines, townhomes, or apartments). The greater density combined with the likely fact that there are a high proportion of renters might make a far wirse excrement problem.

    Thanks!

i would agree there's a small % of people who are talking about it. so what? there's nothing wrong with wanting the law to be adhered to, and not wanting poop in your yard or in my case- on the circuit where i walk my dog.

just b/c it isn't YOUR problem, that doesn't mean it isn't A problem. i don't see tons of piles, and i don't want to wait til i DO to help do something positive.

i'm still all for a pet registration and fun awareness event. willing to volunteer to make it a success. handing out flyers, ok, leaving SPAM on homes, not ok.

i hope this doesn't turn into ppl knocking others for wanting a cleaner neighborhood- all the OCD and silly name calling is stupid. there are hundreds of threads to follow if this is soooo irrelevant to your life.

:conf2: Umm, so you want to take action on a problem that doesn't exist for you??? A problem that you have no actual evidence of??? Help me, because I am confused as to why you care. That would be like posting about getting poor service at a restaurant when you have only had good experiences there.

The reason that I am posting, is that I would hope to REDIRECT all of this energy toward more important issues, as I stated in an earlier post.

You want to knock someone for trying to make our community cleaner and better?!?!

    Now I am confused!

And to further my confusion... Why do you care that she cares?!?

And just because it is not important to you does not make it unimportant to others.

Why do individuals feel that they have to take matters into their own hands? Can't SK8R report this address to the HOA office... and won't they send a letter to the offenders?

How do we enforce the rules in this situation? The violators are known and their address is known. If the HOA can't do anything in this case then there is really no hope.
