How about we all post political and other beefs in here, so as not to clutter up the real threads. :)

One of my neighbors has questionable taste in christmas lights... they're all red, and outlining the whole house!

    I'm all for white lights.

Thank you for your time, Mr. Speaker.

I agree...colored lights are tacky and an eyesore. Luckily, most everyone on my street has nice tasteful white lights.

There is one apartment in The Arbors though, that has some ghastly lights on their balcony...some people don't have that much junk on their entire house! Next time you drive by on Demott, check it out...you can see it from the road.

Multi-colored lights are the only way to go!!!! And if you drive on Truro Parish, you have to look at them on my deck!
    White lights only? EEwwwww----how boring!

    brim,

you must have not seen the 8' blow-up snowman on that balcony in the arbors... you know, the kind you get at walmart for $29.99. pretty horrible, but oh well, there's no accounting for taste :) They do indeed have alot of stuff on their 6'x6' deck -- almost enough to call the fire marshall I'd say...

At least the lights aren't blinking! (blinking lights are the worst)

For those celebrating the pagan solstice, keep in mind the godess said in Rituals 2:14: "Deck the halls with whatever color lights you want."

I love that apartment! It's so "Northern". What is it with the south and white lights? All year round you have nothing but white lights. Live a little. Next year I'm going to put up a 30 ft inflatible Staypuft Marshmallow man to teach ya'll some christmas spirit in the pagan way!;)

Note: I've lived in VA for over 25 years, I just travel a lot.

??? I lived in Tennessee (Knoxville, go Vols!) for 23 years and pretty much all I saw were tacky colored lights. It was nice to get up here and see mostly white lights. I consider this the north, we're further north than D.C. and above the Mason Dixon line...and it's been several months since I've seen either a jacked up rusty 4x4 or a mullet with a torn, plaid, lined flannel shirt...it's North to me. :)

I think that same proverb also says "Keep thy colored, blinkie lights in thine trailer parks and red-light districts."

Sure, I saw it. At least they aren't buffoons enough to have all these lights then one random string in the middle of them blinking...

    Yo Brim,
I don't know where you get your maps but VA and DC are well below the Mason Dixon line. That line is the border of Maryland, PA and Deleware.

"Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats."

My mistake...I stand corrected. :) I still don't consider this the South, though.

I like it all.... even the "tacky" stuff. One of our favorite family Hoiday traditions is to go out for a drive two or three evenings
and look at decorations on the houses. Yes, some of it is a little over the top, but I just love it. There is no limit to human creativity when it comes to Christmas decorations. Who cares about taste, it is all in the fun and spirit of this season, right?
Actually I love the tacky over done houses the best. I am just too timid to do those things to my house, I guess.

I'm with you there, SK8R. There's one house in NJ where my dad lives that we call the "Griswalds". They decorate over the top for every holiday. They put that one apartment in th Arbors to shame.:D

Put me down for colored lights.

There's nothing worse than those horrible cheap white icicle lights that are simply NOT strung with care so that they droop the entire length of the eaves. Or they may just droop in a few places while the rest are straight. Or they have a few lights out.

I like the multicolored icicles. They are rasta!

I also like the tree I saw where they tsrung the tree with icicles instead of regular bulbs - that looked good.

Regular white lights are so passe.

I'm with you there, but about all manner of stringing lights on a house. I'm so anal retentive/OCD that if I were to outline my place with lights, I'd probably get some 1" X 1/2" strips of wood and drill holes 2" apart on center and push the bulbs through so they're all nice and even and straight. :) Then tack that up along the outline of the house/windows. It'd look pretty sterile, but fine by me! :)
