WOW!!! Thanks for the rate info. I can't believe that price. Even providing supplies, that is one heck of a profit. I would hope the ratio was one teacher to one child for that rate, plue parents had web cam access, etc. I doubt it's much cheaper for the older classrooms.

Actually..they do have a very good ratio. I think 3/1 for Infant and 5/1 for young Toddlers. Where I go now it's 8/1 for Toddlers (although there is usually 2-3 teachers in the room at one time).

I'll be a new first time mom come December and was wondering what is the average rate of putting an infant in all-day daycare?

We had a 3/1 ratio at the school we used for infant care and it was around 230 at the time, it's $272/week now for all-day care.

Cost is important but it's also important to know what they are providing, other than the supplies mentioned, that they feel justify the cost. I think this forum doesn't allow service providers to post messages promoting their business, so if you want to know what differentiates BeanTree from the others, it would be best to visit with them personally.

I can tell you I pay $225 a week and love my daycare. More importantly so does my daughter. When I moved here over a year ago, I looked at creme de la creme. It was the gorgeous school, with so many interests and activities to do. Cost was not a huge factor for us but it mattered a little. The school was too hard for us to reach and commute in to work. We ended up putting our child in one very close to the house, with no fancy victorian village, splash park, tv studio, stage made out of a jungle. But she has adjusted so nicely in her new scaled down environment - I wonder if all that fancy stuff is too much - I mean Yoga at 2? It seemed like too much going on or that is what I tell myself at least :) As with most daycares/schools you will find what they advertise as 1 to 4 ratio is loosely followed. They follow the state standard at the end of the day. I remember looking at Congressional schools and was blown away by their ratio. Then I went to visit and was told they "try" to maintain those ratios. And this was not the only place! Easy to do when you first open up, but as the classes and space fill.....

I wish the new school luck, they will probably fill up quickly as there is no lack of children in this area or those with the money to send their kids to this kind of upscale school. Just because it has all the thrills does not mean it's any better.

I totally agree. It seems that all the fancy stuff is:
    A. a reason to charge an absolute premium
    B. can be distracting from the true test of how good a place is ... its staff.
    C. overkill ... I mean most 2 year olds are happy with old pots and pans ... a TV Studio??? uhhhhh ok

Can someone please let me know about the issues that occurred with Childrens World awhile back? I am considering starting my 12 month old son there. Also...any feedback on Chesterbrook Academy in Ashburn?

    Thanks!

Here is the thread in which CW was discussed: http://www.hoa.broadlands.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=256

Admins locked this thread due to problems with people creating and posting with duplicate member names, etc. There was clearly a lot of internal squabbling going on at this place, so I would take the comments on this thread with a grain of salt.

I won't say much more, since this thread is limited to "Positive Feedback only." By all accounts, however, if there were issues with this child care provider in the past, they have been addressed. There was a thread not too long ago in which several people whose children currently attend CW posted that CW has gotten much better.

We love Chesterbrook and our kids have progressed through the 3's, 4's, 5's, K and school age rooms there. If you'd like more info please email me.

We need to decide between Chesterbrook and Children's World by December- we're on the list at both places. We're leaning toward CW, but any info/feedback on either place would be much appreciated. The nice thing about Chesterbrook is that they do part-time for infants (although they're doing away with that, but thanfully we're grandfathered in) and prorate the tuition. However, we weren't as impressed with the facility/staff...

Also, where are y'all finding rates around $230/week? All the places we visited were in the $250-270/week range for infants.

I have recently spoken to a friend that works at another CW place in the area & years ago worked in the Broadlands location. Since they did changes at this facility, it is now one of the best in the area. So I think CW would be great.

I've never heard of anyone doing part time infant care so if that's what you need, go for it:)

I will be happy to provide any feedback negative and positive of CW since my children attends there and my daughter will be going on 5 years in April 05. Please feel free to call me at work at 703-793-3700 x2418 between 9-4pm. I have to say that I've been through 4 center directors and the current center director along with their new staff with the exception of a few have been the best so far. The rooms are very spacious, clean, bright, and colorful with full of arts from the children. Again, please feel free to call me I'll be happy to give you the load down + and - .

My wife and I are expecting our first in mid-March. We are both fairly young (23 & 22) and we have no choice but to both work in order to pay the bills. Because we are both from Louisiana, we have no family here that can watch the baby... so he'll have to start daycare as early as possible.

I've read all the replies to this post, but if anyone has any suggestions please feel free to email me about what we can do. I would prefer a center where I can get online during the day and watch my child through IP cameras (if any around here have them) or at least a place I can show up at any time (lunch hour for instance) and be with my baby for a little while.

Remember: we both have to work to pay our bills, so a $300/wk daycare center would pretty much defeat the purpose...

I know that Winwood has video cameras (3 to a classroom and at leat 1 outside), but relatively pricey and I believe a pretty long wait list. Their number is 703-729-2900 if you wanted to ask them anything. When we were looking they were the only one that had the internet capabilities.

I've had experience with only two daycares, Mulberry in Reston and Chesterbrook in Ashburn, and both were very welcoming and encouraged me to come in anytime and stay as long as I wanted. I'd assume that any good daycare would do the same, and I would not have considered a place that discouraged it. I was able to play with my babies and their friends, nurse them, take them out for swimming lessons or whatever, as much as my work schedule allowed. If you can do that, you'll also get to know your baby's teachers very well!

Most of the daycare centers in this area are $250 plus a week. The cameras are nice, but it's easy to get obsessed with them. We found it easier to find a daycare we could trust instead of relying on the cameras (we've been to both). Wait time being long does not necessarily mean the daycare is good. We waited for 7 months to get into a place only to find we didn't like it. Look at as many as you can find, you'll know when one seems right for you. You might just get lucky, we happened to find one we liked and only had to wait a week (lucky).

Many home daycares are less money, but they are home daycares. The county web site has listings.
