I'm not so sure that a potential new hospital would have much bearing (positively or negatively) on where we look, but just out of curiosity, what is the location of the proposed hospital?

    Thanks.

Same for us. When we were relocating here from Boston, a friend from the area had actually suggested we strongly consider South Riding. We drove through there ONCE, it felt terrible, and somehow (I'm still not sure how) we ended up looking in Broadlands and we just felt right. Looked in the Farm, the Village, and we just had a gut instinct that Broadlands was for us. We moved here very quickly with a job relo providing us little time to check the area out fully. Every day i learn new things that make me thank God we ended up where we did. I have yet to say "Man... if I'd known THAT I wouldn't have moved here." And we've been here 2.5 years.

It would be in Broadlands North - on Broadlands Blvd near the Clyde's & School Board buildings.

We loved our neighbors, and our neighborhood, when we lived in Broadlands. For the most part, we found most of our neighbors to be friendly and outgoing--well, except for one neighbor who I won't identify by name--I'll just call him T8. He was a real pain--he liked to hang around and drink beer with me, helped me a ton with my golf game, and was as much of a Red Sox fan as I was. REAL problem neighbor! (His wife & son were great, though!) :)

Perhaps this is a bad time to mention that I was rooting for the Colts in the AFC Championship game.

UH OH! Doesn't bother me as I am a Redskin fan for Pro ball.
But PATSFAN would certainly take umbrage with you! (BTW, he is 6' 5' and about 260 lbs of mostly muscle).

Well if people dont talk to me now, they will. Even it is to yell at me for being an Eagles fan.

No can do--we couldn't afford to buy that house today!

Sorry to hear the house is empty--maybe you'll have better luck with your next neighbors...

Well, I root for the Sox versus the Yanks, which should satisfy Pats fan (but now the NY transplants are going to come out of the woodwork).

I'm, uh, not 6'5" and about 260 lbs, but I run like the wind.

Thanks for the info. about the Broadlands area, folks. It's good to see that so many of you think very highly of the area. Like some of the folks who posted here, we drove into the Broadlands for the first time to check things out and got a really good vibe.

No worries--it was refreshing to see Peyton not choke for once, and it was getting boring wiping the mat with other wannabe Champs.

So now that others have had a chance to experience the sweet smell of victory for a couple of seasons (eh, brim?), I'm ready for the Pats to take their rightful place at the top this year! :)

OK, I've read enough this afternoon until I'm doubled over from laughter!:)
Here is my take on living in Southern Walk, Broadlands, Ashburn, Van Metre's cash cow, etc. My perspective will be from a SBPW (that's Single, Black Professional Woman) who is a co-owner of a house with her twin sister. We both have no kids and fight over the affections of one small dog:D ! Therefore, that makes us DINKS!
Let me just say that in the following, a picture is worth a thousand words:

Beautiful Landscaping - We are currently in a friendly competition with our neighbors on who can create and maintain a lush green front/backyard and lush flowing plants.
Home Owner's Associaion Fees are $224.50 per month-:censored:
    Walking Trails -
    Pet Friendly-:)
    Kid and Family Friendly -
Single Adult Friendly- :( However, we knew that before we decided to move here. For example, we were invited to a wine tasting gathering sponsored by neighbors in Southern Walk last fall. We've not been invited back since then.
Openband- We've not had any problems with their service.
Tennis Courts- :) Love the underground walkway.
Swimming Pool- Too many kids, not enough supervision. I won't attempt to swim in it based on reports of "foreign matter" in the pool...you fill in the blanks.
Services  -Restaurants, Grocery Stores,Shopping, Basic neccessities, like Nail Salons and Starbucks, and did I say Restaurants!

Also, other names associated with living in this area:
    Ashburn- Assburn
    Loudoun County- Lowdown County
Basically named because of the Dulles Greenway and the crazy commute into DC. However, I (we) chose to move here from Reston 3 years ago because we love the area. Seriously folks, who really loves their job so much that they want to live close to it??:D When I leave work in DC everyday, I feel as though I've escaped the concrete jungle to travel to my country home. Having a lovely home to come home to is well worth the commute I have to deal with in order to make a living. Just invest in a good car and IPod!

    For what it's worth...

Although we dont do much wine, or at least I don't. I would glady invite you to the home brew uncorking.

My wife and I are childless most of the year, and we have a broad range of friends ranging from multiple children to single people.

    FWIW.

The first rule of beer club is - you do not talk about beer club.

The second rule of beer club is - you DO NOT talk about beer club.

Third rule of beer club, someone yells no more, goes limp, taps out, their night is over.

Fourth rule, only two home brews to a night.

Fifth rule, one beer at a time, fellas.

Sixth rule, no shirt, no shoes, no service.

Seventh rule, drinking will go on as long as it has to.

And the eighth and final rule, if this is your first night at beer club, you have to drink.

I live on Milford and yes there are several properties for sale around us. I heard a rumor today from my neighbor who spoke to some tenants being evicted from their rental townhome behind us on Schenley Ter. (the unit is being foreclosed by the bank). Apparently their landlord is an investor who bought $5M worth of properties on Milford Drive, Windover Dr., among others (including these townhomes on Schenley Ter.) with borrowed identities. These would be legal id's that real people would loan to him around $20K each. Apparently the bank is foreclosing all these properties once bought by this individual. Not sure how much truth there is to this but the tenants my neighbor spoke too were so upset that they looked into it more in depth and that's how they got this information. Apparently they were informed only 2 days before the foreclosure but the bank ok'd them to stay there until the property sells.

Just curious if anyone else out there has heard anything on this matter....

To DCTEX, aside from this, Broadlands is a GREAT place to live! We are a family of four with two little kids and a dog. We just love this area and Broadlands is a great neighborhood! Frankly, I would imagine this sort of thing is happening in many neighborhoods around us as well - the investors that helped drive up home prices in this area just can't hang on long enough.....
