This is a general alert for Broadlands residents: be on the lookout for a door-to-door peddler claiming to sell Omaha steaks.

He came to my house this weekend and gave my wife a hard time when she told him she wasn't interested. Fortunately I have a loud dog who doesn't like strangers.

My next-door neighbors say he waited in his car until they drove away. He then approached their house and told their daughter he was delivering her father's order.

He could be legit (license plate: ETSTEAK), but this is the season for scammers.

Loudoun County requires that all 'door-to-door' solicitors be licensed by the county. If this person does not have a license, the Sheriff should be called.

If anyone see's this git around, call the Sheriff, I suspect he doesn't have a license, but even if he does, it'll put the fear of God into him.

He was out on our street last weekend. He claimed to be out here
delivering an order and the people weren't home, so he'd make us a
    good deal...

He came to my door a couple weeks ago with the same line. Someone wasn't home and he would give me a good deal on their order. He was an older man with his son who had down's syndrome. When I said I didn't want it he said well I guess you lose than. He was very rude and used every scummy sales technique you can think of.

He parked in my driveway last week. I am always cordial to the door-to-door salesman. He was a bit too pushy for me. I don't know who the kid was (and I do feel sorry for him) but it seemed like he might have brought him along for a sympathy purchase. Also, the sales man repeatedly told me he had cancer. By the time he tells you what he is selling you just want to buy something and wish him luck with the diseases. Anyway, sick or not, I did not like his tactics and I did feel a bit uncomfortable.

He stopped by our house too - with the same line (I have an order for someone and they are not home). It reminded us of those guys that pull up with the "special" deals on speakers they are selling out of their trunk/van. LOL. Scary.

They stopped at our house too, and I think there was really something 'wrong' - when I mentioned we already had food service and just had a delivery, he claimed he was from that same food service company (NOT Omaha) and wanted me to 'go look in his truck to see for myself'. I had a very bad feeling about him, as did my other neighbors. He also became very rude and belligerant when I said no.

Has anyone actually looked in the vehicle to see if the person actually has the product they are claiming?

I would be worried it is simply an excuse to look at houses and ring doorbells during the holiday season.

Also a good excuse to be in the area and possibly take packages left on doorsteps during the daytime hours. There has been an increase in these thefts mentioned on the the news lately.

If fact, if someone sees this guy again, please write down the license plate number!

He came to our house too. Rude... as others have stated. He did show me what he said was a license to distribute food, or something like that. Its been a while and I don't recall all the details. I'm not sure what a "door to door salesman's license" would look like as Neil suggested, so maybe this doesn't meet that qualification.

Solicitors have to register thru the Loudoun County Sheriff's office before they can solicit right? This guy sounds suspicious to me. I don't like answering my door at all - unless it's someone I know or little kids selling their popcorn or cookies or wrapping paper and they're usually with a parent.

Any solicitor .. door-to-door or otherwise has to be registered with the Sheriff's office must have a official license. If he is selling from a vehicle, a description of that vehicle must also be included on the license. If I was selling my Watkins products by going door-to-door I would need such a license.

    Here's the pertinent regulation:

The neighbors say he announced he's coming back to the neighborhood tomorrow (Tuesday). Hide the wimmin and chillen.

    The STEAKMAN cometh.

This same man (along with a boy), came to my house (yesterday or Sunday-can't remember which) trying to sell us steaks. My wife was very polite, but this man lashed out at her when she refused to give him any business. Scam or no scam, I hope nobody is giving this man any business. He should be reported to the county whether he's legit or not. Going door-to-door and being this rude to people should not be allowed.

By the way, I live in the Farmwell Hunt neighborhood, between Bloom and BRHS.

He was at our house also last weekend. He was very pushy and gave us the line of someone having stood him up with an order and giving us a good deal. The dog, who normally is quite friendly, went nuts and was very upset, not a good sign, she knows her scammers. Did not know she could growl that nastily. We live on Stonewheel Way, near Clydes.

I will always trust my dog's impression of people.

She was definitely in the "protection mode" that day. There was something "wrong" with this guy.

Could have been just a guy selling meat, but these days I trust my "radar" and my dog's radar.
