Yeah, the pushy annoying steak salesman came to our door yesterday, too. He wouldn't take no for an answer and my wife slammed the door in his face.:devil2: We live on Small Branch Place.

Yeah he was around on Saturday in our neighborhood (Scara Place) and I watched as one of our neighbors bought some meat from him. I couldn't belive it, I don't know the neighbor that well, but who would buy meat out of a truck from a guy you don't know. I agree he was very rude and when he approached me I asked if he was licensed and he said yes but it was in his truck. I told him I can wait and he and the boy went back to the truck and drove up the street.

This is a very bad sign. Get licensed :rulez:, get some manners :lame:, and then come back with your meat

I wish someone would call the non-emergency number for the Sherif's Dept. and let them have a word with this guy as he continues his march through our neighborhood.

You know, for some reason I think "meat salesmen" do not need licensing. It may have been a neighborwatch meeting where a LoCO sheriff said they didn't.

He stopped by our house last week. He was very polite and not at all pushy.

if he's just annoying and not illegal, i don't see a reason to call the cops. if he comes here, i wouldn't hesitate to tell him that he's do a lot better to treat neighbors respectfully since we all talk about what goes on and bad news travels fast. i'd tell him taking no politely now COULD end up just being a NOT NOW instead of a no forever.:nono:

then i would ask why the heck i should consider buying meat off of a truck?!?! with triconosis, salmonella, mad cow, bi polar chicken and punk pork diseases out there- how is this a successful biz?!?! does he butcher it himself?

has ANYONE here ever bought the meat and have any feedback about the product, not the person...?

We've been getting all of our meat off a truck for the past 2 years. Best steaks ever and the burgers are to die for. Don't get me started on our "meat on a stick". Our salesguy is a younger guy (mid to late 30's) and I have never seen him with a kid. He's a little strange, but nice and harmless enough. And the meat is really really good (better than anything I've had from any of the stores around here and rivals the better steak joints). I wish I could offer some samples, I think everyone might be pleasantly surprised. Doesn't forgive the guy for being rude and creepy though.

So people are buying meat that you have no idea where it came from, how long its been sitting out or who is selling it.

    Wow. Just wow.

This is the second time we bought from the guy. What made me do it in the first place? he has a son with downs and other disabilites. we have a daughter with disabilities. we talked about his wife, who i researched, and her involvement with the special ed community . he was very nice, but he is a little pushy. the meat is frozen and he has info about the company, which he gives you. the steaks were very good! the roast in burgandy is also good. the hamburgers have very little shrinkage. we are happy with the purchase. is it a deal? probably not, but we helped out a guy and his son and got a good steak.

We've also bought twice from our guy and have been very pleased. We have known people over the years who have bought meat out of a truck. That is probably why we took the leap of faith. Our guy also provided us with his company info and their guarantees (no freezer burn, etc.). Our neighbors were a little skeezed out at first and it took a few barbecues before they would try the meat (when they realized that we were still here and not in the hospital or worse). One of our neighbors liked the meat on a stick so much our salesguy gave us a couple of extras to give him last time we got an order.

I have not bought meat from a grocery store for about 1.5 years. I don't know where grocery store meat comes from or how long it's been sitting out either. I know I have gotten nasty meat from Safeway and Giant in the past so I don't find the grocery store route any safer or less risky than my truck guy.

you raise a good point! we have also had bad meat from a few supermarkets ove the years, i guess you just get conditioned to a certain behavior and anything ELSE sounds unusual... hmmm!

when we lived in FL we ordered meat via Omaha beef. steaks, porkchops, burgers, roasts- it was fantastic.

We've ordered from Omaha Steaks and also a place for bison and have had really good luck with both of them.

The steak guy just showed up. He flashed some ID card and said something about Ft. Belvoir (which I didn't understand), and then he went into some song and dance about being stood up for some appointment and that he had a load of steaks and that he could avoid a trip to Purcellville if he could unload them here. (Yes, this is nearly a run-on sentence, but it reflects the style of this guy's patter.)

Yes, he was very pushy. When I told him that I wasn't interested in the steaks, he asked if I wanted to consider some fish. When I said no to the fish, he asked, "What? You don't eat?"

Our brief exchange went on for about 90 seconds, and from my side I concluded by saying that I wasn't interested. His quote to me was, "thank you, for not helping me." And then he and his son got into the truck.

I said nothing else. End of story.

This guy sounds like a real pest....it's interesting that he probably doesn't have a license to solicit in Loudoun.....I haven't seen in my neighborhood yet, although some guy came to our door last night around 6, when we were eating....blew him off totally, but I doubt it was him...he didn't have a kid with him.

These guys need to realize that making cold door-to-door sales calls is a very risky way of doing business. I can only speak for myself, but I would not generally buy anything from a cold door-to-door salesperson. That is not how I make my purchasing decisions.

There are some legitimate food delivery businesses out there that will come to your door. But all the ones that have come to my door were only offering information about their services, not expecting you to buy food right there and then.

This seems a reasonable way of doing business. The fact that this guy was pressuring me to make a food buying decision right on the spot, made me cautious.

In my experience, when a salesperson pushes for me to make a decision NOW, it benefits the salesperson and not me.

So if this guy is legitimate, which I doubt, he needs to change his business methodology. If he is a legitimate meat reseller, fine, but this story of someone standing him up and if I act NOW I will get a great deal is not how legitimate businesses operate.

Besides, my dog did not like him so that sealed the deal for me. :)

    In dog we trust.

I feel for this guy's kid - if it is his kid. Be careful. This guy may try to drink your milkshake!

I also deeply resent anyone "using" a kid like that to manipulate me into buying stuff.
