Many are a :censored: mom or dad who leave their young child(ren) in the car ALONE :nono: while they run in to conduct a transaction. Just plain ole dumb people IMHO.

Ok, so this is interesting. Sometimes I will need to run into the bank (BofA in Ashbrook Commons, no drive through) to deposit a check and my son (6) doesn't want to come in. So does that make me dumb because I lock the car and leave him in there?

Since you asked and not to be mean but yes, as-a-matter-of-fact, I do think THAT is dumb (not saying you are). I also believe it is agaisnt the law for you to leave a child of that age unaccompanied in a car for any length of time. So many things can happen while a child is in the car alone, something can happen to you. Not saying anything will but there is always a possibilty.

Well I could also go outside and get hit by lightning, a car or have a heart attack, but I get your point.

Interesting. Do you have the statute that says it's illegal? I'm curious to see what it says exactly.

It appears it is only illegal in certain states. Not sure when this was published, but I can not find anything specific for Virginia. http://www.usa.safekids.org/content_documents/Summary_of_State_Unattended_Kids_in_Cars_Laws.pdf

    Staci

Update this was introduced in the State of VA in 2007 but does not seem to have come out of committee
    Summary as introduced:
Child unattended in a car; penalty. Provides that it is unlawful for any person who is responsible for a child younger than six years of age to leave such child unattended in a motor vehicle if the conditions within the vehicle or in the immediate vicinity of the vehicle, including outside temperature, present a risk to the health or safety of the child. The penalty for a first offense is a $100 civil penalty, for a second offense a Class 4 misdemeanor, and for a third or subsequent offense a Class 3 misdemeanor. Full text:

That's what I wanted to know, 8 years or younger. Not that isn't an excuse or a "get out of jail free" card, but my son is never out of my line of site. I do however see a lot of kids that look 8 or 9 that are riding their bikes out, obviously unsupervised. And I think it's too young for that. I wonder who came up with 8?

Wait.. I'm reading what you wrote. So is there something specifically stating leaving children unattended in vehicles already or something they are proposing?

It looks like it is a proposal, the HB 452 made it's way out of committee - but the Senate Bill has not passed and in fact it looks like SB1265 may have failed. I can't make heads or tails of the "trail"
    http://www.richmondsunlight.com/bill/2009/sb1265/

I do believe that most "localities" use VA Code 63.2-100 to charge parents with "child endangerment/abuse", as in the recent case in Woodbridge this past Spring.

Why are so many people haters? So what if someone parks in the firelane to drop off/pick up dry cleaning? If people spent more time worrying about what's in their control instead of what is not the world would be a happier place. Instead we have bitter people running around because they feel lsighted by something that has absolutely zero impact on their miserable life.

Then I guess you wouldn't mind if my dog pee on your yard. I can't control her either.

Maybe because there are REASONS their those spots aren't parking spots to begin with?

Who died and put you/them above the law? Ever considered being selfless instead of selfish?

Or maybe you have some great justification on why parking 30ft away is too difficult for you or someone else? I'd love to hear that one.

Welcome to my world of Zoloft so I don't notice the things I can't control. Doesn't work, by the way. I'm still just as obsessive about people following the rules than I was before. I'm just sayin'.

So why have rules and laws at all? Just do what ever the hell you want and screw everyone else. Let's just have a world of total choas as long as we are "happier" as individuals.

Maybe if people spent more time thinking about their responsibilties in society and respect for others than no one would have a miserable life and the world would definitely be a happier place.

Wow..what the heck does that have to do with parking in the yellow zone? Bring your dog over and let her pee on my yard. I'll let my pitbull out and they'll make fast friends.

Seriously. With a subject line of "Raw Rant" I think other posters can let the original poster have his/her say and leave it at that. Isn't that the point of a rant? Let's try not to run people off by arguing. :)
