Can I ask if you used a professional mold remediation company to gut your bathroom or just a general contractor?

If anyone's interested - I ended up using JAL Home Services (Jeff Lindquist):

He did a great job recaulking two baths and was reasonably priced. He specializes in bathroom repairs.

Would anybody know if CVS or Walgreens carry "ProCaulk"? I've seen "As seen on TV" products in both stores, but never looked closely enough to see if they have ProCaulk. I'd like to give this a try, but would like to save on the $5.95 shipping.

Trick is keep your finger moist and wipe of the excess caulk from your finger often. You'd have to wipe off the $20 tool anyway, might as well use your finger.

As my Dad always said, "there ain't nothin' you can get on your hands that you can't get off"

Bed Bath & Beyond has one right as you walk into the building (just happened to see it today).

On a side note; the Sham Wow guy on TV makes me want to hit something VERY, VERY hard. Dunno what it is about that guy, but he drives me even crazier than Billy Mays LOUDLY schlepping his crap...

I am a bit concerned that the mold along the bottom of our shower - once we clean and reseal will come back. I have a sneaking suspicion it lies under the tiles and shower pan. Anyone have this kind of work done before, curious what something like that would cost and if you can reuse the tiles or if that will be an issue to refloor the entire bathroom.

Actually upon further investigation we found that if shower head is pointed by the shower door, the water comes down to our kitchen ceiling! The seal around the door is compromised. Ugh!

On another note; has anyone had plumbing moved (toilet relocated about 3 feet)?

Sorry, I didn't see this before now. I did all of the work myself. I gutted the exterior walls around the shower and tub and removed the flooring down to the subfloor. I also had to rebuild the shower bench, tub deck and added some more wood to the joists. I also reinsulated the walls and floors.

    Hope this helps.

The mold will come back, unless you can get under the tiles to remove it. As for reusing the tiles, unless you can get the mastic, grout etc off of the tiles they are not worth the trouble if they are builder quality tile. The tiles depending on which ones you select will not be as expensive as you think, the cost comes in for the "fancy tiles" such as matitta, bullnose, corners, etc.

All in all you will spend 5000-10000 dollars on a bathroom renovation. I reused my vanity, toliet, soaking tub to save some money and to get the bathroom ready to use. I am waiting to find the vanity, toilet, etc that I like and install it later. I would suggest you look into the Schluter system

    http://www.schluter.com/

I had this installed so hopefully I wont have to worry about mold in the shower, bathroom for a long, long time. This system is not cheap, but if it removes the possiblity of mold and cracking of the grout lines then it will be worth it.

I bought the procaulk to redo the kids tub/shower area. My opinion? Meh... not perfect but it did help. I used it to remove the initial amount of excess caulk but still used a wet finger for the final finishing as the procaulk did not leave a smooth bead. It did help though as when I just use my finger I usually remove too much material.
