Same here. It's fine, I just don't go out of my way to eat there.

There must be 10 places that serve fried rice in a small radius. Cafe Opera happens to be one of them....

Same with the hoopla about Trader Joe's and/or Whole Paycheck...

exactly- your post illustrates yet again why it's a poor location choice! Plenty of choices exist already to spread out the Chinese food biz, and it's already spread thin.

What I like about Cafe Opera is how nice and accommodating they are. The staff there is always so friendly and make me feel welcome. That's a big part of what brings me back. We don't get it to go but eat it there so that part of the experience is very good. I like the food, too, but I'm no expert on Asian food to know if it's top notch or authentic - i.e., I may not know great art but I know what I like. :)

I wasn't arguing pro or con on the Chopsticks location. Business take risks, that's what they do. If he wants to put his capital at risk, so be it.

I think a number of stores are also overloaded in this area....Hairy Peter, Target, etc.

gotcha. i happen to agree with the repitition overload. the funny thing is there are some REALLY great ideas and small franchises out there that may do well out here.

I love Yen's! :) We eat there quite a bit (I'm from Taiwan) so it is very nice to get some traditional food so close in Ashburn.

we live in Taiwan when I was a toddler, and all I can remember is that we had a dog named Pgo and lychee trees.

but Yens tastes VERY different to me than other Asian food- the meatball soup is simply OUTRAGEOUS. I still haven't finished reviewing them but I really love that place.

Just came back from Moe's tonight and got to chat with the manager there. I asked her point blank "Are you going to have to close or will you be staying open?" She replied "We are staying open."

It looks like Moe's and Five Guys are the only ones left. I have a theory; Moe's and Five Guys are the only 'franchise' type restaurants in that strip. As such, they probably had access to some legal representation from 'corporate'. Isn't it curious how all the 'independents' were successfully forced to close, but not the franchises?

I hope that Moe's and Five Guys stand their ground and stay open. I was glad to see that both restaurants had steady customers tonight. I find what the new ownership of that plaza is doing totally absurd.

..or maybe they had more help negotiating their lease and had garuntees that the other people didn't have the leverage/knowledge to fight for. I guess it could go either way.. but even that doesn't quite add up. I mean if you are going to run everyone out (as the rumor is) you'd have to be smart enough to recognize who you could run out by intimidation and which you really had to bluff if you couldn't force it.

The statements made make it sound like he can't FORCE people out.. so if you can't do it enough to clear the lot.. why force anyone out? I mean what does having a 80% empty shopping center do for you if you can't clear out the last 20%?

    Very odd..

At our Maryland location our landlord wanted to redesign the shopping center. He told us we had to move to another spot at our own expense ($100,000). We showed him our lease where we had taken out that clause and instead he had to pay all the costs for us to move. We have a very good business attorney who was the one that saw that possible problem before we signed and corrected it in our favor. Unfortunately, several smaller businesses had to pay for their own relocations because they didn’t take it out of their leases.

What I don't get is the motive for kicking them out. What is up with the new landlord, what is he planning to do? I don't see any logic to the plan as currently known.
