Five Guys is still there. I actually went into 5G's after talking to the Moe's cashier to see if they knew anything but the cashier there did not know.

Both of these places need the business lunch crowd to survive so they need to stick close to the 28 corridor. A move to Broadlands or deep into Ashburn would not be good for business (good for us for sure, but not for their long term outlook).

Tiajuana Flats already failed there- wasn't it similar to Moes? i would bet Taco Bell has a solid non-compete so Manhattans plaza is probably out.

Here is a thought. Let NOT have them relocate so the area is not saturated with restaurants, and the remaining ones can survive, and maybe even thrive!

couldn't agree more. nothing against moes, but how many mediocre deluxe fast food joints do we really need in Ashburn?

enough of those, enough burger joints, enough pizzerias, enough sub chains, enough wing joints. we barely support the restaurants that ARE still in biz. there's must be SOME other industry that can thrive within a neighborhood that has no metro, no driveby traffic, and lame, repetitive strips malls every 2 miles.

we don't need more banks, nail salons, martial arts schools, hair salons, supermarkets, drugstores, or car washes.

in my perfect dream world, we improve the current plazas somehow with walking space, outdoor dining, greenery, live music pavillions- something to give LIFE to these strip malls. any new bizzes that open would not be available already within 10 miles. people would be willing to spend a few bucks more for a higher quailty product from an independent retailer.

    but that ain't happenin'... :(

Hmmm, you ever actually eaten at Moe's? I personally think it's FAR from being 'mediocre deluxe fast food'...

i have--- not a fan. not a fan of chipotle, baja fresh or california tortilla either. i either like the very bottom of the ameri-mex barrel Taco Bell, or la ultima in Tex Mex for THIS area- Picantes or Uncle Julios Rio Grande.

but i don't say this just because i'm not a moe's fan. I don't think ANY duplicitous restaurants should open in Ashburn.

While on paper what you say makes sense, I actually do like Moe's, Chipotle, and Cal Tortilla. They're all a little different and sometimes I'm in a Moe's mood, sometimes I prefer Chipotle, and lately I've been on a CalTort kick. Now, do we need TWO CalTorts in Ashburn? No. But I do like having the choice between these three. Maybe if I was a burger kinda gal I'd find use for 5 Guys and Fosters as well and enjoy them both. But I'm not a greasy burger and fries kinda gal.

ha! culture didn't work out so well, just ask Silk Road and Callaloo... oh wait- you can't- they are GONE.

move on from the restaurants, potential biz owners- sell something ELSE. what i dunno, but clearly food is not the way to success here.

i AM a greasy burger gal and i don't want to see another burger joint around here- i wouldn't mind seeing a few less, actually. i like fosters somedays and five guys others- and i wouldn't mind leaving town and heading to chantilly or reston or wherever for one or the other if they both weren't here.

Today there is a for sale sign in front of the shopping center. 5 Guys appeared to still be open.

Just because the buildings sell doesn't mean the tenants have to leave.

I agree that what Broadlands needed was a walkable "Town Center" not unlike the Harris Teeter in Lansdowne @ Belmont Ridge and 7. Stores and restaurants facing a pedestrian friendly (narrow) "main street". Southern Walk Plaza could have been that place. With multiple pedestrian bridges linking to town home community just across creek to north. The Broadlands business condo's commercial corner should have never been planned. Southern Walk plaza needs a gas station, Dunkins, etc. While I enjoy the concerts/events at the old stone house park on Waxpool, imagine if those same events were at a venue at one end of a Southern Walk 'main street' style town center like Reston Town center. While 'drive by' strip malls may have been the way, motorist driving past @ 45MPH wont noticed the non-chain business. But slow down to 20 on a main street laced with crosswalks and parallel parking and the no name business will thrive on increased foot traffic.

Agreed. It's a cookie cutter approach that doesn't cut the mustard anymore.

Aren't the developers behind the new development on Belmont Ridge Road/Ashburn Farm Pkwy trying to do more "al fresco" shopping/dining (a la Lansdowne model)?

yeah but the Hillside Park concerts ARE walking distance for those of us who live in the other section of the Broadlands...

Except that no one can "walk" to it unless you live in the condos attached to it.
It has lousy parking which will get much worse as the condos fill up.
Communities such as Broadlands, Ashburn Farm, Ashburn Vilage, etc. that were planned in the 80's had stripcenter type development. The "town center" concept came later with places like Brambleton and Lansdowne.
