So if we want authentic, quality Italian food we have to drive to Sterling to go to the Olive Garden? ha ha ha ha ha

Seriously, I'm sorry to see them go.

I'll Have to get the pasta attachment for my Kitchen Aid Pro series, and crank it out homemade. Michelangelos was so yummy. when restaruants really make their own pasta it tastes so much better.

Now my deceased MIL always made her own noodles by hand from scratch! And she was not Italian!

Actually, we usually do. So when we go out for Italian food I like to get something fancier than what I make at home - like lobster ravioli!

Did Calaloo actually reopen? I heard a rumor that they were shutting down for good.

When I drove by tonight it looked like everything was gone from there. NO signs about music, etc.

That is really upsetting! Callaloo was one of my favorite restaurants. Such delicious, authentic food...and within walking distance of my house! We're going to have nothing left but mediocre chain restaurants when this is all said and done. Then there will be no reason to eat out anymore. :(

While I hate to see any company fail - it boils down to simple economics. I would rather put the extra $30 into my wallet for a rainy day than worry about a place going out of business.

I have not eating at a restaurant for lunch in over a year (minus a few work related meetings).

understandble that you'd like to keep the extra $30 in your pocket...just as much as the restaraunt owners would like to have money in their own pockets, to make a living.

Always good to be frugal and spend your money on what you find worthwhile. With the economy the way it is I think when I *do* eat out I'll do so at a locally-owned restaurant rather than a big chain. They need it!

I know this will offend some folks.... but Callaloo was slow and mediocore at best, and Michaelangelos didn't know what it was............... for sure the food quality detoriarated across time.

GOOD QUALITY, fresh food restaurants will do well......... as will authentic places (Callaloo did try but reality is when we ordered from there, and ate there it was shockingly slow...and sadly not that good)

yeah but slow is culturally acceptable in island terms! :) you can't go to a Caribbean restaurant and expect fast service- it just isn't that way. food is prepared to order, not sitting in a pot waiting to be reheated. enjoying the atmosphere and relaxing is part of the experience- it's not the type of place you go when you are in a hurry.

We ate out last night. I wanted a good Italian place but couldn't think of one in Ashburn that wasn't a chain (and even then...). So we ate at Bluz Brothers BBQ instead. The service was good but the ribs were dry, as many people have said in other threads. I knew that when I ordered but figured I'd give it a shot and see. My point is that we chose to spend our money eating out and chose to spend it at a locally-owned restaurant. rich351854 is right that it still needs to be GOOD, though!

On a side note, on Saturdays Harris Teeter has pre-cooked ribs on their special "to go" kiosk and they're actually pretty good!

I agree. BTW - I'm not eating out just to eat out...it has to be EXCELLENT!! And if restaurants aren't excellent in my opinion, then I won't go back. We don't eat out that often, so I expect something wonderful.
