Roads are HORRIBLE!

has anyone driven to Lifetime today? Roads, parking lot, feedback? thanks!

 

My neighbor said he drove to Herndon and the roads were down to pavement in most places. I haven't been on the roads yet to vouch for that personally.

 

I drove down Waxpool to Broderick this am and to be honest, the roads are in better shape than they were on Monday.

 

A friend just told me she made it there ok. Roads were ok, but the lanes got narrow in places so you need to watch out for that.

 

Main roads - OK
Some "side roads" like Shell Horn - packed snow

 

The section of Ashburn Village Blvd. between Farmwell Rd. and Waxpool (in front of IHOP) is still not cleared. It's full of ice, ruts, and snow. Go another way if you can.

Waxpool, 28, the part of Nokes by the mall/Lowes, LCP between Shellhorn and Waxpool, and Route 7 between 28 and Ashburn Village Blvd. are clear.

 

simply AWFUL- i was just there and turned around at the ball field. worst road I've seen yet. the good news is you have to go so slow that the deer bounding across the road can do so with no fear... i saw SIX cross in front of me!

claiborne is ok the the problem is it goes 2 lanes, left lane clear-right lane piled with snow, left lane piled-right lane clear, both clear, you get the picture. so you can tool along side by side then suddenly SOMEBODY'S lane is gone... annoying but manageable if you BOTH pay attention.

 

I saw lots of big machines of varying types out on Waxpool and on Prentice as I was heading to Lifetime. they're trying!

 

a pretty good job has been done on every other road i have been on- better than i expected in many places! FAR better results than the last big snow- maybe all the kvetching made a difference...

 

that stretch between ashburn village was terrible! it was bad in the dec. storm too.

waxpool from claiborne to where it turns to truro parish is bad too. lots of clumps of packed snow - some quite high, and not so good for us with non-suv's out there! it's really awful.

claiborne between waxpool and ridgeway was fabulous! and i noticed the side streets in southern walk were much clearer than those here in broadlands north (our street is still one way only). i see the plows come through, but not with their plows down.

 

Has anyone been on 28 between here and Chantilly? I was wondering if 28 is clear.

 

I haven't, but I crossed over 28 on Waxpool/Church Road and at that point could see that it looked just fine. But of course that only gives you a small snippet of the stretch you're asking about.

 

i was on 28 from exit 9 to here, it was 100% fine. other side looked good too.

 

I have driven that section several times over the last few days and as of tonight it is perfectly clear and mostly dry.

I'm really impressed with the clearing our road got yesterday afternoon. It's been a one lane, rutted, snow covered road since the storms, but it was drivable (just barely). Yesterday a big VDOT plow came and made a couple of passes and then a Bobcat came down, cleared in front of all the mailboxes, made sure the driveways hadn't been blocked, etc. I'm really surprised at the amount of time and attention to detail that was $pent on it.

 

WOW - we haven't seen anything like that on our street, it's still a mess :-(

actually it IS wider than the first day- 2 cars CAN pass each other if each goes all the way to the snowline. a lot of drivers don't realize it and site there giving me dirty looks since I don't pull over anymore- trust me lady- YOUR MINI VAN WILLL FIT PASTMY SU Vette! luckily it's melting and by the end of the weekend it will be clearly wide enough...
