Just not the greatest thing to see when you're entering Broadlands...

Their commercials are so annoying. Every week they have another "sale"
for some stupid reason "our mismatch sale", "our summer heat sale" "back to school sale".
I do not want to buy a mattress from them because I hate their commercials!
Yeah, it will be tacky looking. Hopefully they won't last and we can get a Harvest Bread company or something
    there on the corner.

Let's also hope they don't use those glaring red-lit letters. I haven't seen the signage plan for the shopping center. Let's hope it's tasteful.

I am not enthused about the Mattress Discounters... That is just plain trashy. However, I am shocked about the ABC Store. Now that is great for a family-focused community...

I never thought I would long for such a thing but... last week-end we were in Williamsburg
bringing the first born to The College of William and Mary... well, hubby and I snuck out of a parent's
meeting and ran to the book store for coffee and doughnuts. (Hey! do you remember how hot it was last Friday? Well, it was hotter in W-burg and we had to move the teenager into her dorm. Whaaa, whine, whine) I had a Krispy Kreme doughnut that was totally yummy. We NEED Krispy Kreme in B-lands.
    Doughnuts make people happy!

I too am disappointed with Matress Discounters. But why is having an ABC store somehow anti-family? From my experience, ABC stores are 100% more difficult for underage persons to get into that your average bar that fronts as a 'restaurant'.

As a responsible adult who enjoys his Bailey's Irish Cream and other appertifs (sp?), I am grateful I won't have to trek to Sterling any longer!

FYI..there is an ABC in Ashburn. It's at the "big" Giant in the Ashburn Village shopping center.

Wonder what the day spa will be offering....also, the dry clearners up here are ridculously expensive!!! Yikes!! the one by Giant fleeced us good. Anyone recommend a dry clearner or tailor that won't break the ole' bank?

I would like to see a 24 hour pharmacy in that safeway! Or a CVS.

While I agree in principle, the ABC is no different than Safeway. After all, Safeway (as well as other grocery stores) offers a large selection of beer and wine. Personally, I feel that alcohol is alcohol, whether it's liquor, beer, or wine.

Well if the HCA hospital comes here, at least I can use the ABC Store to cope!!!

I guess that my concern about a Broadlands ABC store is the message that it sends to youth. My position on the ABC store is very similar to my stance on the hospital: there are perfectly good ABC stores and a brand new hospital nearby for anyone who needs them, so why put another in OUR community.

Not to cause a major disruption, but under that logic, would you oppose new churches, recreation centers, or child care facilities when there are 'perfectly good' ones near by for anyone who needs them?

I personally would like to see Broadlands develop into a comprehensive community, with the full spectrum of homes, schools/child care offerings, community organizations, small shops, and yes, even the hospital. A thriving 'community' - in my opinion - is more than just a collection of residences. I'm not advocating a city-like environment, but something more than just houses and apartments.

Yay jtarnow! Every so often I feel like I've woken up on the set of the Truman Show or as a walk on for The Stepford Wives. Thanks for reminding me that this community is diverse and for appreciating </u>the differences. Cheers to your Bailey's.

JT: No objections whatsoever to new churches, but I am indifferent about the rest of your suggestions. We have enough of those close by. However, I would prefer that we keep our community as residential and calm as possible. But an ABC store -- just a bad idea.

Why is an ABC store less "calm" than a Safeway or other retail outlet? An ABC store's hours are limited by state law and it strictly monitor who enters. Have you ever been outside (or worse, inside) a video rental store on a Friday or Saturday evening? Those are anything but calm!!! (But I am sure you wouldn't object to Blockbuster, now would you? :D)

JT: I've never had any problems with video rental places. Why don't you start an Anti-Blockbuster thread and see if you are labeled a "vocal minority"?[:p]

Now, encouraging people to get drunk -- and that is what an ABC store does -- is a problem.[xx(]
