I would have to agree. I had a much stronger negative reaction to Mattress Discounters than to the ABC store. I am glad we will have a card/gift shop, I was hoping for a Hallmark but will give this one a chance. Is there a new estimated opening date for Clyde's?

Does anybody know if the stoplight that is planned for the Claiborne Pkwy/Broadlands Blvd intersection will be put in prior to the shopping center opening? If it's not, I see some bad accidents waiting to happen there once it opens.

    Tech Head-
Terrabrook was trying to get it installed before the shopping center opens. I'll find out and let you know.

I was actually hoping for a stoplight at Claiborne and Waxpool cuz as houses get built, that is going to be a major street. Though having a bunch of stoplights to get to the greenway would not be desirable either.

I agree that within the not-so-distant future, a stoplight at Claiborne and Waxpool will also be needed. Trying to cross Waxpool at certain times of morning and evening is getting very treacherous!

Speckhard, in case you don't know, you can also avoid lights (although several stop signs) by turning right off Claiborne (coming out of Southern Walk) and taking Waxpool over to Shellhorn Road, turn right, and then again right on Ryan Road to the Greenway.

But back to the Safeway Center, I think a stoplight at the Claiborne/Broadlands intersection may also help a little with the speeding along Claiborne between Waxpool Road and Ashburn Farm. Let's hope, anyway.

A light for Waxpool/Claiborne is also planned in the not too distant future. I will also try to find out about this one as well.

Finally, people are focusing on things that we REALLY need! ...like stop lights instead of a duplicative and duplicitous HCA hospital! I am sure that we can all agree about the need for those at the Broadlands/Claiborne and Claiborne/Waxpool intersections.

Oh my friend, killer_bee, finally a topic where we completely agree! Our discussions on these forums have been enough to drive me to drink... fortunately we'll have an ABC store nearby! :D

Wait... maybe we should start arguing about the need for left-turn arrows in these lights? ;)

JT: I just read the Leesburg Today article on the hospital vote. Praise be! I'll even raise a glass (ginger ale only) while you fill up at the ABC store! Now, if HCA will just go away, we can tackle the real issues for Broadlanders: stop-lights, speeding, vandalism...

There will be a stand alone Starbucks store in the shopping center. It will not be located in the Safeway.

That's great news but it's not on Saul's site. How did you find that out? I don't want to get my hopes up and have them dashed.

Hi, I just checked Saul's site, too. There's no mention of Starbucks.

However, do we need another Starbucks so close, KillerBee and Homer? Is it redundant like the proposed hospital? Just joking! I support Starbucks, too! :p

I was at the Starbucks by the Giant in Ashburn Farm and there was a meeting where the regional manager was training new employees. My ears perked up when she mentioned one would be working at the new store in Broadlands. I asked her if it was in the Safeway and she said no, it is a stand alone storefront in the corner. Expected opening day is November 6.

Stephanie: Oh, brother! Oops, sister, I mean! You know all the right buttons to push. Just joking... In all seriousness, though, I've made my peace with this forum about the proposed HCA ho$pital. Still, you are right that I have called the proposed HCA ho$pital redundant, duplicative, and duplicitous. However, I don't see a Broadlands Starbucks as either of the three. And that is based on fact... If you go to the Ashburn Farm Starbucks in the morning before work, you know the long lines! Also, unlike the proposed HCA ho$pital, Starbucks is not duplicitous. When you go to Starbucks, you know you are going to pay $4.00 for a latte--the costs are posted for all to see. With HCA, you get stuck with the bill PLUS higher taxes due to HCA fraud and abuse!

And, just how do you come to this conclusion? HCA would pay taxes to the county/state, unlike LHC. How would that cause us higher taxes? I would think the opposite, but I presume you're basing this on some information you haven't provided us. You keep coming up with these off-the-wall remarks without providing any source for the "facts" so we can research them on our own.

It's OK to build another Starbucks 2-3 blocks away from another Starbucks because you have to stand in long lines but you have a problem with building another hospital when people have to wait in long lines for health care or in the halls for a room. Makes one wonder where your priorities are.

GCyr: With Starbucks, you are at least getting an honest company. With an HCA ho$pital, you get a company with a history of fraud and abuse. And that fraud and abuse costs the taxpayers! Here's how:

HCA has admitted to defrauding the Medicare program out of millions (actually, NEARLY A BILLION). Guess who pays for Medicare: that's right, us the taxpayers! So, when HCA defrauds the Medicare program, it is taking money out of our wallets! Why in the world would you want to bring that element into our neighborhood??? Now that really makes me question your priorities. Would you welcome a known felon into your house with open arms?

Also, please see http://seniorhealth.about.com/library/weekly/aa121700a.htm for a good review of HCA's fraud and abuse track record before saying that these remarks are off the wall.

Can we please not turn every thread on this site into an HCA fight? It's really getting annoying. Can't we keep the hospital battle to the appropriate thread?

Well having another starbucks within a 1/2 mile radius is not surprising for Starbucks. In Ballston (Arlington Va), there are 3 within a 1/2 radius. 2 of them are 1 block apart. I don't know WHY they did that. Of course they HAD to have one across from Xando. And 7-11 just across the other street. So as I step out of my office building my brain has to decide which coffee house I want to go. Sometime I get a brain overload and I grab a juice from the street vendor.

People need to take the time and make their own brew. I started doing this recently. Cappuccino is my favorite. I don't think there's one drink I can't make that Starbucks has. Cleaning the cappuccino machine is a biotch though :(
