I agree about the Mattress Discounters. Seems to me like it cheapens the shopping center. One additional business in there is the SunTrust Bank going in Safeway. It's scheduled to open 10/29. :)

There's a Blockbuster going in there?

Yep! Terrific news, as far as I'm concerned. I currently treck to the Ashburn Village Blockbuster.

Homer - Saul Centers lists Blockbuster on their website and it is going in right next to the most anticipated Mattress Discounters store.

I'm glad there's a Blockbuster going in there.....that's great news! I agree - we should boycott that Mattress Discounters store, hopefully they'll go out of business and we can get a drugstore.....

MD will probably do fairly well in this area. The nearest mattress place is in Herndon or at the Dulles Mall. And why such a dislike by most posters for MD? Is it because it is not "sexy, glamorous or an oft visited" store? Odds are that most people in Broadlands will not hesitate to go to the new MD when they need a new mattress.
IMHO, starting a grassroots campaign to get rid of a matress store is just lame!

T8erman, I agree -- in fact, wer'e in the market for a new mattress and if MD carries Sealy, Simmons, etc. and has good prices, why wouldn't we look there?

I think that we're going to see more stores similar to MD (retail) in the Phase II section.

It's b/c Matress Stores are usually seedy and the industry has a reputation for ripping people off. I have no personal experience with MD so I don't know if the sterotype will be true in this case.

I will never buy a mattress there. Their commercials on the radio are so annoying. Every week they are having a new sale.
we have been there. They sell okay mattresses, not great mattresses. There prices are not good.
I really hate their commercials, like
    Toyota, loud and stupid,

When we first moved to Loudoun County, in 1988, I saw a bumper sticker on a car that read "Don't Fairfax Loudoun County". Well - Loudoun County is beginning to look like Fairfax County to me. I don't personally have an objection with MD, just the fact that it's going into a beautiful development .....it just doesn't seem to belong....as I said before...it belongs off of Rt. 7 or over by Home Depot in Ashburn. We just bought a new mattress a couple weeks ago by the Mall, it's no big deal to have to drive there. I personally moved to Loudoun County to get away from the traffic, noise, etc. of Fairfax County. (Reston). It's kind of sad.......

I seriously doubt that it could open tomorrow. We rode our bikes up there last night, and the store is not stocked at all. I think that November 10 is much more likely.

Stopped by the Safeway tonight. They are definitely NOT opening tomorrow. It looks like it could be a week or two though. Boy, that's a BIG store!

Tyger31, I agree with you completely.
We moved here in '96 and boy, has it changed.
too many shopping centers, too many houses, too many cars, too many dry cleaners (did you know that the chemicals they use cause cancer?) too many nail places. It is turning into Fairfax County. Every time I drive somewhere I have not been in a while, Bang! it looks different, trees plowed down and houses moved in.
It is turning into a thoughtless mess.

Why is everyone so hard on Mattress Discounters? In America a free market and consumer demand determine where a company locates a store. If MD has no demand for their product they will eventually fold up and move on. If they do well then it would be obvious they are providing a service the community needs and/or wants and have every right to stay.
I personally dislike Starbucks but I respect their right to open a shop in Broadlands.
This shopping center, like all others, will go through several businesses in the first few years until the local economy decides what type of business has the right "fit".

I went to the Sterling Safeway earlier in the week and was told that this one is opening at the end of the month.

And I'd like to say that I personally wish Starbucks was in the Safeway...hello!? use your Safeway Card & get free coffee!! Free is fun:)

Is it just me or anyone else think the shopping center is WAY too bright all night long? I guess it could be a good thing, but as a resident who lives right across the street from the new safeway shopping center, we were able to see the light thru 2 of our bedrooms all night ! I just hope they plan some tall tall tress to block some of those lights,,,
