I respect that Mattress Discounters has the right to open the shopping center. However, I don't like it, and won't use their services. I've got the right to do that, don't I?

kassiabi, I think that it's just going to get brighter once the gas station and Phase II are completed. Actually, I thought it wasn't that bright considering the large parking lot. At least the lights are shining straight down!

SK8R and TYGER31 - You think it has changed since 96??? I grew up in Sterling Park when there were only 3 lights in ALL of Loudoun County. I can claim to go to Broad Run HS BEFORE Park View was built (Class of 79). At that time there was a little town of maybe a couple hundred people between Sterling Park and Leesburg called ASHBURN! :) I can remember a "rush hour" commute to Langley that was no more than 30-35 minutes down Rt. 7 (what toll road?). I am glad for alot of the development that has occurred so that I do NOT have to go to Fairfax Co. to shop and have certain things done. I would like to see more development, smartly done of course.

I've been in Ashburn since 1988....right at the very beginning....had to go to Leesburg or Countryside to shop.....development is good....but in VA - they build development first and THEN worry about the congestion on the roads....Now Purcellville is going thru the same thing and they don't want to look like Ashburn!!

I just got off the phone with a VP at Saul who is responsible for the Broadlands site.
The Safeway is hoping for an Oct 29 opening, with the remaining stores opening between early November and late December.
Additional stores under contract that are not shown on the website are Starbucks and Postal Connections (a UPS/Mailbox etc type store).
Negotiations are ongoing between a Fins and Feathers pet store and a family oriented Italian restaurant.
Phase 2 is expected to commence in January with a Sept-Oct 2004 occupancy date.

    Cliff,

The next time you talk to someone at Saul (don't make a special call), can you get an update on the Safeway gas pumps. Drove by there Sunday and I didn't see any construction on going for the pumps.

    Thanks,
    Greg

Just saw the sign up at the Safeway. "Grand Opening, Wednesday, October 29, 8:00 AM". It looks like it is about half stocked with food already.

Well, it looks like it will be a two Starbucks plaza. In additional to the Starbucks store, there is a Starbucks inside the Safeway. There's also a bank, dry cleaner, and sandwich shop inside it.

So, you can hit the Starbucks outside the Safeway before you start shopping and, if you start to run a little low on caffeine while you are shopping, you can stop at the one in the store. I LIKE the sound of that! [:p]

The shopping center is 98% leased...pretty good for not even open yet (couple more days!)

Also, we should encourage the Starbucks to have live music and stuff from time to time. Makes for a nice place to visit.

Here's the latest plan on the Saul web site...but it's not too current. It shows #5 as available, and that's where starbucks is going...

    I saw that 98% too...

    pardon my math/curiousity BUT....

how are they doing their math...In order for it to be 98% would imply that 49/50 stores have been leased...Does that mean only 1 store is available???

    Hmmmm

So, the Safeway is opening Wednesday morning and still there is no work on the stoplight. I guess we are all going to have to be very cautious going through the Broadlands Blvd/Claiborne Pkwy intersection. I just hope there aren't any fatalities! This is so typical of how things are done in Loudoun County (and northern Virginia in general). Build it first and then worry about how people are going to get to it.

The Starbucks is about the same size as the one up the street so it'll be a little small for live music (bummer).

And when do you not have to be carefull at that intersection? It's been a mess ever since the apartments on Demott opened up. I saw someone run the stop sign in front of a truck and boom!
