Safeway Shopping Center

I would like to bring up an issue that has been itching me lately. Why in the world does the Safeway Shopping Center on Clairborne only have one entry way and exit. I would like to see an additional entry/exit intersect up around the Blockbuster area.

 

Because of the proximity to the Greenway ramp VDOT would not allow any entrance or exit on that side of the property. Thus all entrances need to be on Broadlands blvd.

Does anyone know if they are planning to put a light at the entrance?
It's becoming quite difficult to exit left out of there plus I have seen a few pedestrians almost get picked off crossing there.

 

About a week ago there were 2 VDOT trucks at that intersection - 2 of the guys had clipboards and they were looking up and down Broadlands Blvd across to Demott and pointing, etc. Fingers crossed!

 

As of right now, there are no firm plans to put a light at the entrance. The HOA has been talking about this, and if nothing else, will ask for a 4-way stop. The annual HOA meeting is on May 10th, and we will have some Q&A time set aside for questions such as these.

I have been after Van Meter to look into the possibility of a light at that intersection for several months now. So far the only thing I have gotten them to do is get Saul to move the vegitation so at least you are not guessing if the road is clear when crossing Broadlands blvd. Once Broadlands blvd is open all the way through I see that intersection becomming a major problem. Hopefully if I am re-elected to the board I can continue to work with Van Meter and Saul in getting something put in at that intersesction. I am just hoping that someone does not get hurt before I can convience that that it is a danger

Of course. Where would we be without a 4-way stop. If only the populace were educated on how to use them. They have to be the most idiotic thing ever invented, if only in this area. It's like watching a Chinese fire drill.

 

Actually, in locales where using a 4-way stop is taught .. it works quite well. Around here ... people haven't a clue !!

Here's a thought - maybe we could include a section in the newsletter (I'm thinking front page) explaining how 4-way stops should work.

 

Good idea. But, if they're not stopping at the stop signs, will they actually read the newsletter? I don't know but it's worth a try. It really is.

 

Right now the biggest issue with Safeway is the condition of the property surrounding the new gas station.. It's terrible, especially compared to the rest of the shopping plaza.

Very trashy looking... doesn't really go with the rest of the neighborhood.

 

well, it would help if they'd water the trees...

 

Those are still buildable pads, as is the area next to the bank. Once those are built, it won't look so bad. Consider, the 'rest of the neighborhood' once looked like that before it was built up.

HA! No kidding. I'll never understand why people just don't get it. It's not that hard!! It's probably not that they don't get it though, it's probably the same self-important people who park in the fire lanes and don't pick up their dog-doo who don't feel like waiting their turn.

 

Why is it just the gas station pad that is so bad looking? Can't they do something about that? At least cut the grass!

 

I have spoken to the manager at Safeway and to Safeway corporate and nothing. They say sorry for the inconvienence and that they will look into it but nothing. It looks trashy and takes away from the rest of the plaza which looks wonderful.

 

the empty pad is not the Safeway responsibility, it belongs to Sauls Center, the Owner and property manager of the entire site. Call them, but I doubt you will get a response, as they do not think it too important, since they have not come to any of the past 2 annual HOA meetings like the rest of the developers.

 

We're talking about the Safeway gas property - not the empty pad site.

 

The empty pad is not the concern it's the Safeway Gas Station, which is a disaster. I realise the gas is cheap but does the site have to look cheap.

It's a frustrating battle since the manager of the Safeway can't help and corporate doesn't seem to care. Makes you wonder about the entire operation....

 

Saul Center's is responsible for the lawn maintenance of the area. Right now they are finishing up the landscaping in front of the Section 2, which (I believe) also covers the Gas Station.

Lets have some patience with this, and see what happens during the next week.
