My husband and I ordered carryout from San Vito tonight and it ended up being the worst experience. We ordered a calzone, a pasta dish and a plain caeser salad - and it came to $30. Fine. We get home and everything was cold. My husbands calzone tasted AWFUL - it had no flavor at all, and was truly just terrible. My pasta was mediocre at best. The caesar salad at Wegman's is even leagues better than the salad we got from there tonight. So we figured it was just a bad night, but thought they'd want to hear some feedback so my husband called and talked to the manager. The manager had ZERO idea about customer service and didn't even offer an apology, and basically just said "thanks, bye." We're just pretty surprised, especially the managers response, and are just curious if anyone else has had any similar experiences with them recently?

I've been a very regular carryout customer at San Vito. I have never had a problem with the quality or service. If you're still concerned I'd suggest talking to a manager in person. I would guess something unusual happened during your recent patronage. Something they would like to hear about and make right for you. Just my two cents.

I'm a semi-regular there and have not had a bad meal. The only carry-out I've gotten is pizza.

If there's one thing I miss about living there, it's San Vito's pizza (and Rio Grande). I never had a bad experience there...when they first opened up they had some trouble with the waitstaff because they were all young and inexperienced but they overcame that fairly quickly.

We had carryout from San Vito last night and it was great. Of course, we only had pizzas but they were deeee-lish. We ordered from them about 5:30....maybe you hit them at a bad time/rush??

We have had numerous items via take-out and have yet to have a bad meal. I hope your meal was a onetime only experience. I echo others and suggest you talk personally to the manager.

I've never had a great meal there. It's just not a place I care to go, the meals I've had are pretty tasteless.

JenTimC, my wife and I agree, somewhat. We both love the pizza, but the entrees tend to be a bit bland (especially the sauce). She's Italian, so I usually defer to her in these matters ;)

Polar8825 - I can relate to your wife. I'm Italian as well, but I don't even eat at any Italian restaurants due to my pickiness with the sauce and food in general being too bland. Since I make my own sauce and my husband and kids are totally spoiled, there's no need to frequent any Italian restaurants at all.

our first experience (last year) at San Vito was horrible- so much so that we wrote to the GM and told him how everything from the host to the service to the food was below par. he sent us a long apology and a VIP card which has several discounts, but we never used it.

then my husband joined Anytime Fitness and received another VIP card, so we finally decided to give it another shot. 180 degrees difference from our first experience- excellent service and food. it was easy to see that management had switched hands since our first visit- the staff was trained and working together, the food was much better and delivered in a timely fashion, and the whole experience was nice.

is it the BEST Italian food- not by a long shot- i like more flavor as well. but it's close, has good prices and tasty enough to go back again. give it another shot- if it still stinks, head for Domani's!

UGH ... that place is even worse ... being in Pittsburgh, I have access to great Italian, which reinforced to me that there are really no good family-owned Italian joints in the Ashburn area.

I don't think Domani's is excellent but it IS better than San Vito, IMHO. So far Dante & Luigi's in Philly is the finest Italian restaurant I've ever been to outside of NYC.

We stumbled on the San Vito in herndon by accident once..and were pleased. so when we moved to broadlands and saw there was one here..we were pretty excited about it. It's not the best italian food--but we've never had any issues. i don't think their pizza is that great...but some dishes, while i agree some are bland, are tolerable for the price.

i do need to agree though--the best italian food i ever had was in NYC--in chinatown if you can believe that. i guess when they moved little italy, this place stayed put..and it was amazing!

best chain italian food i've found around here: Carrabas
best fallback when driving to reston isn't an option: Olive Garden--i've never been disappointed (b/c i always order the same thing) :D

I agree. I LOVE Italian food wish there were some better Italian places around here. All of them seem just "ok".

We prefer Carrabbas. Good service and food. Also, for about the same price they give you a nice salad with dinners (whereas at San Vito for example that is $eparate).

A Buca di Beppo would likely do well around here too? Yum! Wonder if any are in the works?

I agree about Carrabbas. Can't go wrong there.
We also really enjoy That's Amore in Sterling. We've always had good meals there.
As far as pizza we like Bravo. It's close and quite good.

Bravo is good and rarely busy. I have to say that San vito's is better than Domani's (Buy a long shot) but their food is a little bland.

I think there is a Bucco Di Beppi in DC.

Try Dulce Vita in Fairfax off of 29, Bonarati's on 123 in Vienna, and Da Dominco in Tysons. All are Itailian owned. Bonarati's is high end, Da Dominico's owner will sing at Dinner and Dulce Vita is low-mid.

Domani's has some good things, but service is wierd. And by that I mean the people running it and delivering.
