It's that time of year again. With the construction of new schools being delayed, there could be some significant school changes for Broadlands residents.
With Creighton's Corner and Stone Hill in Brambleton well below capacity, I'm sure the School Board will be looking to move Mill Run/Eagle Ridge students south.
Pay attention to the meeting schedules and make sure your voices are heard!

Thanks Cliff. This is a subject VERY dear to many of us. If you or anyone else comes across any information, please post it here so we can keep this thread/discussion alive. We need to make sure that all Broadlands residents are well informed about what could potentially happen and act accordingly, early and firmly.

With our son starting 1st grade next year we are VERY concerned with this issue.

Why do I get the feeling that south side of Claiborne is slated for a Brambleton school???

Why are you concerned? Distance? When we moved to Ashburn in 1988, our son had to go to Arcola Elementary. It was fine....it actually was a wonderful start for him until Ashburn Elementary opened in the Village and he was there to start 5th grade.

Just a reminder that the meeting is 6:30pm at Mill Run - Tuesday,Feb 3. Also note that the changes (possibly moving Mill Run and Legacy kids to Creightons Corner) will be effective in Fall 09.

Would you rather she go to SB than BW? If so, I'm curious why. (As you know, I have no children that age so I know nothing about either school.)

BW keeps a tight lid on what happens there, so you never really here about it. SB vary rarely has/had any issues with students acting up or doing things they shouldn't do. I don't know why the difference is so large.

Daughter was afraid to go to school when she had an eye infection as there had been several drug busts at that time. As it was, she went and was pointedly asked by students who saw her crusty red eyes, if she was on something.

There have been other things. There is a older male student who likes to see if he can pull down the front of the pants of freshman girls. He has even fully put his hand on the top area of another girl so hard it left bruises. He lied to the principle about that when confronted by other students so nothing happened.

Daughter recently said she almost wished she had gone to the private girl's school we were looking at.

She has always wanted to follow her brother to SB. She loves the band director, Mr. Keller and already knows kids there, as she did go to Sanders Corner up to 4th grade
She also likes the German teacher at SB more than the way she gets taught by the one at BW. There is a class or to where the teachers can't control the students, so a group of them talk almost the entire class and some even get up and walk behind the teacher and open up her closet! girl child figures it'd sure be nice if they wouldn't yak, so she could learn something as she wants to go to college.

Now i know many kids who are there and many parents of those kids probably don't have an issue. And it's not to say that these kinds of things may exist at other schools. We only notice things more as we had a kid who was at SB for 4 years.

I could be wrong but I think the middle school boundary changes are being discussed as part of the larger issue of HS boundaries with the new HS opening up in Leesburg. So I would expect some shuffling between SBHS and BWHS but given that there are Ashburn Farm kids going to BWHS over SBHS, I don't know if Broadlandians would end up at SBHS.

Speaking of busses, if there were a sidewalk on Waxpool between Waxpool and the schools, then the 37 elementary school kids in section 13 could walk to school, saving the cost of a bus that comes just for them.

A sidewalk on the south side of Waxpool between Glebe View and Stillbrook Farm would save at least one more bus.

Are there any 'guesses' out there as to which sections of Braodlands may be shifted to Legacy or Creighton's Corner? We moved here in 05 when our neighborhood kids were almost sent to Stone Hill from Eagle Ridge. Luckily that wasn't the case. We can see/hear/walk to Mill Run and Eagle Ridge from our home off Claiborne and Milford. At we at risk again??? Any links to maps/boundaries will be helpful.

So, are you volunteering to walk with the 37 kids to school each day? If not, then I believe the school would have to get either teachers/parents to be the crossing guards as the kids would still have to cross Waxpool to get to the school. If no one was to volunteer, then a crossing guard position would have to be created to protect the children on the walk to school.

Actually, if there were a sidewalk and we all stayed at Mill Run, then yes, I would volunteer to walk the kids to school. It's not much farther than the walk to Hillside Park.

Can anyone tell me at what point all the various proposals for the elementary school boundary changes will be available on the LCPS website? I see some for the middle and high schools, but none for elementary yet.
