Um..why is that? As a person who lives in DN36.2, I think we should stay at Legacy. We're in closer physical proximity to that school than the other planning zones that want to bump us. As for planning for more schools in that area, Brambleton proffered 4 school sites (HS and 3 elementary sites) how many sites have any of those zones proffered? That's right none because they're by-right. What should have happened is that the county should have planned for a school site closer to those communities at the time they were approved.

We moved to the Broadlands 2 years ago under the assumption that it was a self contained community. I am just now becoming aware of these school boundary issues. We live in Southern Walk (currently in the Mill Run Zone) and would be very disappointed if our children are bussed out of the Broadlands.

Where can I find more information this issue and which residents may be effected?

The current plans for 2009-2010 do not affect anyone living in Southern Walk. But you never know what they could come up with next year.

We're in the same boat.......bought in Southern Walk and figured kids would always go to Mill Run and Eagle Ridge, probably Briar Woods. Learning now that nothing is set in stone, even if you live across the street form the school.

If I remember correctly, all of the other zones on the Western side of Belmont Ridge with the exception of 2 will go the Creightons Corner. The devoplement on the western side of Belmont Ridge is going to be slow for (my opinion) the next couple of years so no new schools will be built in that area. Unfortunately, the folks who live in the Regency should have been moved to Stuart Weller along with the folks who live near Broad Run this year and then moved to their school after it is built (proposed 2012-13). The new school for the area will pick up most of the kids who live closer to Mill Run and leave Creightons Corner without students to justify it's use. If your section was moved to Creightons Corner there would not be a need to move the students from there anytime in the near future, which would hopefully eliminate the need to go through this all over again 2 years from now.

Also, I believe the Broadlands section has almost completed all of the development scheduled in the area (less than 100 units left if I remember correctly) so hopefully, the Mill Run boundaries can be "set" just like Hillside Elem. If they move most of the sections that attend Mill Run, those kids will pass up to 3 schools on their way to Creightons Corner, as the kids in your section would drive .5 miles farther and pass one school, maybe 2 (as I don't know exactly where Rosa Lee Carter is). I am not sure what the mileage is to Creightons Corner from Mill Run, but I am pretty sure is is more than .5 miles.

I believe that the School Board should have included other schools in the boundaries plans to solve the overcrowding but they did not so this is what we are stuck with. There is no good solution that will make everyone happy.

Some of my son's best friends will be leaving Mill Run with the Board's plan and now they will only be able to see them after school and on weekends. Also, many of the sports programs use the schools the kids attend as determination for team selection which isn't the School Boards fault, just a consequence of this plan.

I hope this explains things a little bit,

    Enjoy!

Here is the plan submitted to the Board.

This link should help you find out which section you are in.

Didn't the school board meet on April 28th? Is there information on the school board's decision regarding elementary school boundaries?

All the elementary and middle school boundaries were set. They delayed a decision on the high school boundaries.

Sorry I really just saw this part of your post. Actually, you remember incorrectly. DN36.2 is nearly built out. Most of it was in the first phase of Brambleton. There are a few houses close to Creighton Road (that actually front Belmont Ridge) that remain to be built but the rest of it, particularly between Ryan and Legacy Park has been built for nearly 6 years.

Everyone needs to remain vigilant regarding the HS boundaries. I am quite sure that everyone can agree that overcrowding Briar Woods and Stone Bridge is not a good idea. If the staff plan is voted for then expect everyone south of Hay Road to be bussed to Briar Woods and the Brambleton Community to eventually go to HS-6 along with the kids in South Riding who will out grow Freedom. A new school is needed to serve Lansdowne and all the others along Rt. 7. Though they state that this plan ONLY moves ~300 kids from Ashburn Farm, it will in the long term move thousands out of their communities to attend schools further south. In the meantime Leesburg sits happily under-capacity at the expense of our children. There is no reason to have ~2000 kids at Briar Woods and at Stone Bridge. Moving Lansdowne kids to Tuscarora begins to stabilize the boundaries of Briar Woods, Broad Run and Stone Bridge- schools where the communities are built out and stable. Please remain involved.
