Does anyone have a Serviceberry? Would love your feedback about it's growing habit, disease, drought, and insect resistance. Also if it is a hybrid - Thank you.

I have one. I've had it about 3 years now. It hasn't grown much; it was about 7 ft. tall when planted. The japanese beetles seem to like it a little, but not nearly as much as they like crepe myrtles. We have a sprinkler system so it gets regular water, so I can't comment about it's drought resistance. Hybrid? I really don't know exactly as it was my landscape designer who picked that exact tree and her company planted it.

This tree was recommended as being highly prized by birds and critters, but after doing some research and reading about the nuisance with bugs I hesitated. Would it be possible for you to post a picture of the tree?

    Thank you for your feedback.

Birds love it... that is for sure. They eat the berries before I get a chance! a picture... I could post one, or you could PM me and I'll tell you where I live and you can come see it if you'd like. It's in the front yard.

Here's some info on serviceberry on page 10 of this nice document from Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy. Go to http://www.loudounwildlife.org/Habitat_Restoration.htm and click on Gardening for Wildlife Plant List. Lots of nice info in this booklet. Let me know if you'd like me to look into serviceberry further.
