What is the conspiracy theory with Shellhorn Road?

Why isn't anyone finishing or at least paving these roads? In the Overland Park neighborhood, it is paved just to the point where that neighborhood ends. You can see that it is supposed to hook to the left and become part of the road that intersects Ashburn Road - (Faulkner, I think). Then on the Shellhorn Road over by the Home Depot, it is paved except for 50 feet right in the middle of the stretch of road.

Does anyone know why this road just cannot get paved?

Broadlands HOA is in the process of completing the proposal to complete the conjunction of Broadlands Blvd and Faulkner up to Ashburn Rd. That should be submitted in the near future. The $$ used for this construction will come from the Broadland's proffer and Loudoun County. Once the proposal is approved the process should take about 18-24 months to complete. The "long poles in the tent" could be the environmental study for the section that will extend over the small creek and the appropriation of any $$ from the county.

I think that it needs to be paved, too, but I actually hope that the road remains unfinished until the light at the Broadlands/Claiborne intersection finally goes in. Once the whole road is paved, it probably would increase traffic through the intersection greatly.

In relation, what about Sycolin road going into Leesburg? I know it's not really a Broadlands issue but does anyone have any idea when that'll be paved? They "patch" it with new gravel from time to time but once any rain comes it all washes away.

Does anyone know if there are plans to connect Shellhorn all the way through?

There is just one field “w/ a chained off private dirt road” separating the Loudoun County parkway from the Dulles Mail Facility. This would make getting to the Dulles park and ride/606/28 much easier (Avoiding Waxpool and Greenway).

My conspiracy theory persona sometimes thinks these roads are left in the current state to foster the use of the Greenway.;)

Sycolin Rd is in "the plan" to be connected from Ashburn to Leesburg in 2006 at the earliest. See an old Leesburg Today article with more details at http://www.leesburg2day.com/current.cfm?newsid=5649.

While I would also love Shellhorn to be fully paved, my 3-year-old daughter enjoys going "the bumpy way" past Home Depot to Loudoun County Parkway.

    Newfdog-
Just a technical clarification: it is the developer of Broadlands, not the HOA, that is responsible for the road improvements.

vacliff, Your right it's Terrabrook not the HOA submitting the plan.
