Just seeing what interest there is in this from our community. Does anyone know of a slug from the Pentagon to Dulles, Ashburn, or Leesburg? I take the LC Commuter Bus from the North Dulles Transit Center but would like to save more by ride sharing. Thanks.

I switch between driving from Ashburn to the Pentagon and taking the LC Connector bus from DNTC. If you add up the costs of gas (about $8-9 dollars per day for me) and tolls (about $8), it's a little cheaper with the bus but you're a slave to the schedule. However, driving means you're a slave to traffic. Either way it sort of sucks (or, if one looks at this in a positive manner, both are equally good!).

I'd offer to carpool but my schedule is pretty varied since I often drive into DC proper since that's where my office is.

My husband is starting a new job in Crystal City starting Feb. 5. He is trying to figure the best way to go, LC Commuter is in the lead, however he would like to talk to you to see if this might work out. I am going to PM you so you two can connect.

THere is a Fairfax county express from The lot on Whelie Ave to Crystal City Mall. I used it recently. It was a direct, non stop bus. Runs weekday AM and PM routes.

 I communte to Connecticut Ave. NW daily. The bus, by far, is the way to go if you're going to the district especially if you have to pay to park!

Two other options that no one seems to mention. There is a park-n-ride lot at 267 and FFX Co parkway (called Herndon-Monroe Park and Ride). From there you can take a Fairfax Connector Bus to the West Falls Church Metro station, or my personal favorite, is the route 5A Metro Bus. The bus is actually an express bus to Dulles. During rush hour, it goes from the airport, to the park-n-ride lot, to Rosslyn, ending at L'Enfant Plaza. Runs every 40 mins and costs $3 with a SmartTrip card, and $3.10 cash. Same stops coming out of the city.

In the AM the drive to Herndon-Monroe takes about 15 mins using the greedway and the bus into the city takes about 45 mins (traffic depending). Door to door from Broadlands to my office near L'enfant plaza takes just about an hour using the MetroBus. If I miss the bus, using Fairfax Connector and Metro the time is about 1:15 (and costs $4.35).

Good luck in selecting the right option for you.
