The HOA is responsible for anything VDOT breaks or messes up. On the private streets we have an agreement that our contractor will fix anything he messes up. He has already given the HOA a list of things he knows he needs to fix when the weather cooperates.

Some concrete curbs are damaged as well. One at the end of Fieldthorne in Southern Walk, in the cul-de-sac.

The bill, so far, this year for snow removal/road treatment is over $152,000.
And we have a long way to go yet, and the amount we will need to spend in damage repair is still unknown.

    Cliff,

Roughly how much will that translate into in additional HOA monthly fees next year? $5/mo, $10/mo? Higher for townhouses, right? Any estimate on a range?

The $152,000 is just the last storm that does not include anything from the previous big storm in December or the 2 smaller storms in between. Right now we are probably looking closer to $300,000 in snow removal and repairs. On average every $30,000 equals $1 per month increase if it was spread over the entire community. The problem here is a small percentage of this $300,000 goes to the whole community while the majority goes to the TH and SF private streets so there are not as many people contributing to the cost.
I am right now in the process of seeing if there is any disaster relief funds available to an HOA community so that our residents do not have to absorb such a high cost for a once in a life time storm. I have heard back from Frank Wolf's office and am right now waiting for FEMA's response.

Staci - Thanks for looking into relief efforts for this. Our family appreciates all the hard work you and the other board members put into this community.
