I have a heart for skater kids because they "tend" to be outsiders who don't fit in other places (i.e. they don't play team sports, aren't involved in drama, etc.)...they are largely misunderstood and usually have good hearts...but people write them off...and you're right, there aren't many good places for them to skate.

But I think we need an entrepreneur to step up and open a place to skate.

Thank you for being one of the few to see eye to eye. It's true, I know from experience, but there are many entrepreneurs out there we just need to bring the idea up to the Board and have them help.

It's funny, I met with a family this afternoon whose son is a skater. Great kid, good heart, skating is the only place he fits in right now and where he derives confidence.

Do you know of any skate parks that have had a successful business model?

Many, The most amazing one is SPOT (Skatepark of Tampa) its is a leading buisness; It has a full shop, An amazing park, and they are a prime example of what it could be. Woodward is good example, the Vans' parks, they are all great. I would even like to help ther and maybe hold classes for kids

There's a big difference between what a town or city can do and what an HOA can do. That's why Leesburg can have a skate park. The laws/legal responsibilities are treated completely differently.

So if we get the county involved and with us then we would override the HOA,correct?

Not sure what you mean. If the county is willing to build a skate park, that would be a great thing. Then it would be a county facility, bound by the laws and regulations of the county.
I am referring to the fact that the HOA looked into building one that would be owned and operated by the HOA. The county cannot change our insurance/legal requirements.

I agree that it is too expensive for the HOA to fund. But, I would support putting a skate park in this area - either by the County or a private enterprise. Please, don't start stereotyping the skateboarders now - lots of kids skateboard. All of our kids are growing up - lets just keep adding to this area for them if we can.

Skate Parks seems to be the discussing point, but are there any basketball courts in Broadlands--other than the hoops at the elem schools? The basketball court in Ashburn Village seems to be fairly busy when I drive by in the afternoons/weekends. It may not attract tweens you want, but with the restrictions on home hoops it may be something to consider.

I know there is one by the pool across from the nature center. Other than that I am not sure about bball courts.

First let me say that I agree, however those items listed above are not going to keep teenagers from running a muck, so to speak. The bottom line is the parents need to get involved, and CONTROL there kids. That is the real issue.
