As Maureen already answered, Panache is still empty, as is the location where the mattress store was. Honestly, I'm very surprised that mattress store was able to stay open as long as it did. I think in the 11-12 years I've been here, I could count the number of times I've seen customers in there on one hand...

I have a 'theory' regarding the 321/Panache site; I think it's the 'layout' that throws that place off. It's long and narrow. Compare that space with the layout of Bonefish (which is ALWAYS packed) and you'll see where I'm going with this...

Panache tried to appeal to the Tuskies/Lightfoot market with its high brow menu and ambience. But in the heart of Ashburn, that goal is just not realizable - we dined there once, surrounded by toddlers and kids. Nothing against family dining, but paying $100 plus for two in that ambiance was never going to sit well with the target clientele.

I think the Panache space would make a great Corner Bakery since you could order at a counter and sit in the rest of the place. I just think a lot more spaces will be empty before full unfourtanetly.

We bought a mattress from them a few years ago. The store was pretty quiet when we were there.

I agree that Corner Bakery would be a GREAT idea for the Panache spot!

No kidding. Walked to Harris Teeter this morning and had to play Frogger in the McD's parking lot.
