    Vacliff,
What happened to your proposal during the annual meeting to contract out police protection protecting us against vandalism in the Broadlands requiring a special monthly assessment? What is the official position of the Loudoun County Sheriff's Department?

    einstein-
Have not acted on the idea yet. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Department's official response to our hiring off duty deputies was "no" due to the lack of manpower to allow it. Based on the criminal activity in Broadlands vs other areas of the county, we are considered to be in good shape. The sheriff's response was to try and get him more deputies so he could increase their patrols. I doubt this would help. If he gets more deputies, they will be put in areas where there is a high degree of crime, not in Broadlands.
That may work from a county perspective, but I live in Broadlands, so I'm concerned about Broadlands crime.
We did look at some private firms that provide armed security with arrest authority. They provide 2 person crews at a cost of $80/hr.
If they worked 8 hour shifts, this would equate to about an additional $10/month assessment increase. The HOA Board decided that if we do move forward with hiring security, we wanted true security and not just "rent-a-cops".
We haven't had nearly as much vandalism this past year so we haven't persued it yet. I plan to discuss the idea again at the next Annual Meeting and put an article in the newsletter about it.
Maybe conduct a survey to see if residents want it...........

Cliff, I have to agree with you on this point. As far as crime goes, we're going ok here. einstein, we should be ever vigilant, though, so keep on point out problems with crime when you see them!

    Cliff,

I am unaware of any private firms that provide armed security with arrest authority. What are the names of companies you looked at? Thanks in advance for the company names...

I can't remember it off hand. Contact Wes Schroedser at the HOA office. I know he still has it. I think it was "International Security". We also received proposals from two other companies that did not provide armed security.

Follow this link to one of our neighbors. He is interested in getting a neighborhood watch program going, but needs alot of signatures. I have collected 60 in Overland Park, but slowed down with the holidays.
