Not piling on -- take a look at the timestamps. I had started my post before GCyr posted his. It's not my fault I'm not the only one that thought your post was dumb.

I think it is wonderful that the State of Virgina allows the freedom for business owners to decide for themselves whether to allow smoking or not. I would sure hate to think some neighbors would like to take those rights away.

I would like the right taken away! Smoking is a nasty habit and it does harm to those who do not smoke. If it was a habit that only caused harm to the smoker then so be it, but it is not. Why should have to be subjected to second-hand smoke that can be potentially harmful to my health and why should I have have to stink to high heaven after only a brief encounter with smoke?

Exactly. Nobody force us to patronize a smoking restaurant. We shouldn't force resaurant owners to restrict what is a legal activity if they choose not to. It is all about choice.

As a matter of principle I would like to see diners have a choice between smoking and non-smoing sections. Unfortunately, most of the time non-smoking is only partially so. I often experience smoke from the smoking section wafting over to where I'm sitting in the non-smoking section. For that reason, I'd like to see some tighter restrictions regarding the separation of the two sections, or doing away with smoking in restaurants altogether. In Florida, where smoking in a restaurant is prohibited, the restaurant industry is still doing fine.

I believe that traditional bars, on the other hand (not the bar within a restarurant), should be totally exempt from any smoking regulations.

I smoke, and I'm not proud of it. When I go to a Restaurant I always request non-smoking, regardless of whom I'm with. I haven't smoked indoors (Home, work, restaurant, mall etc....) in years and at this point I would be very uncomfortable doing so. I personally can wait an hour or 2 or whatever, and then light up once outside.

No it doesn't...there have been several studies that didn't draw any parallels bewteen second hand smoke and health problems. You even said it yourself:

You should also know that I'm a non-smoker and I think it's a filthy habit and an annoyance/inconsideration at best.

It just came out that Big Tobbacco had studies decades ago that DID prove how bad second hand smoke was but they suppressed the evidence and even hid it from most members of the company. Second hand smoke kills, period. You have to be careful of reports that say they don't b/c they usually come from biased sources and tobacco money.

You wanna kill yourself, go ahead (does this count as a mortal sin??!)! Do it in private. The air is public. Bars and such I consider private 'cause I can always vote with my wallet. It's different when you're in an office.

Don't worry about the second hand smoke. It's the fat, cholesterol, nitrates and hormones in the meat that'll kill ya.
    LOL
Personally I don't worry about it. Something will kill us all eventually so why sweat it? You can eat right stay in shape and not smoke but get killed by some moron on the Greenway tomorrow. It's all a crap shoot. Enjoy life while you can.

I really can't believe how much power some of you want to give to the government. If you don't like a smokey restaurant don't go to one.

...and the pesticides that are sprayed onto those healthy vegetables at the grocery store...and don't forget AGAR, that bright red carcinogen put onto apples...and radon, heavens, the second-leading cause of lung cancer...and biological impurities in our houses...and, aw forget it.

As my Nana used to say (as she approached her 96th birthday) "good thing I didn't know all those things could kill me, or I'd be dead by now"

We made our first trip to the Steakhouse on Sunday around 5 PM during the Redskins game. We had to wait about 20 minutes to get seated which was not bad with the games on the TVs in the waiting area. However, the smoke coming from the bar area was quite noticeable and bothersome while we were waiting. I know there have been a number of posts about smoking/second hand smoke/vote with your wallet/etc., but my hope is that one day non-smokers will have every right to enjoy an establishment like this that is a fun place to go, especially on a Sunday, without having to smell like an ashtray when they leave. I know that won't be reality for some time, if ever, but can still hope.

In terms of the food and the service we were not too impressed. It took a long time to get our food and the helpings were very small compared to most restaurants we go to. The waitress did not know the menu at all and when my daughter spilled her water all over herself we asked for some extra napkins and were brought about five small square napkins used for drinks which didn't do anything. I think the waiters/waitresses also were busy watching the games on the TVs and didn't pay enough attention to the customers.

However, other than the smokiness we enjoyed the atmosphere and the biggest problem was deciding who got to sit on the side of the booth where they could see the big screen TVs in the bar area from the eating room.

The second time we went the food wasn't that great. Really the only thing it has over Sweetwater is that it's right there.

Otherthan big screen TVs .... there is nothing much really
impressive. These chain Restaurants, I don't think they really
care about anything. They are just fooling everybody by keeping
big screen TVs...I mean projectors. We need personalised service
    for the neighborhood.

Well, I have been there about a half dozen times now. I've noticed that there is a distinct "after dinner crowd" if you choose to remain at the bar. It seems like before and during the main dinner hour there are not as many smokers in the bar but after that, the "new crowd" comes in to relax, party and smoke. If you don't like it, move to the dining area which is more isolated.

I have had excellent service during each visit and cannot complain. As one who probably enjoys eating out too much, I would rate the prices as fair. While the name escaps me at the moment, the salad that comes with mangos, avacado and strawberries and grilled chicken is absolutely awesome.

I hope that the steakhouse will implement a frequent diner program as I will be there often!

Has anyone eaten at the Steakhouse lately? It has been awhile but we went last night. We had a Deja Vu in that they brought our Salads out and then 15 seconds later, they brought our entrees out. This happened the last time we were there maybe 3-4 months ago.

The place is convenient but I am always apprehensive about what to order as everything I have had is just "OK".

The Prime Rib tasted pretty good but has been a little tough to cut. Chicken Fajitas were ok. Off hand I can't think of anything that really stood out.

Looking for recommendations on what is good if we go there again???????

Although I am no longer in the area prior to my departure I had been to the Steakhouse a few times. The management has changed and as a result, also many of the staff. It's not quite the same and I didn't find the atmosphere to be quite as personable. Rob, one of the bartenders, was a primary draw in our case and now with his departure, there's not the same desire to go there.

I still think though that if one wanted an old fashioned cheeseburger without driving far, the Steakhouse is the place to go.

I can report while the food is pretty good, the service is not good as it used to be. We got seated, then it took about 15 minutes to get acknowledged. Once we ordered and got our drinks, then it took an additional 20 minutes to get our appitiziers which was promptly followed by our meal and salad. Don't know what's going on, but the service is the only wrinkle there.
