    Summer Nature Camps

    by Audubon Naturalist

    at Broadlands Nature Center

Five Nature Camps will be held this summer! Presented by the Audubon Naturalist Society in partnership with the Broadlands Nature Center, these nature day camps are specially designed to give campers fun, exciting, and educational experiences with nature while making new friends. Daily activities include hikes, games and crafts. A snack will be provided. These camps offer a hands-on experience with nature. Camps are held at the Broadlands Nature Center and are limited to 16 participants. Each child can only register for one session of camp.

Summer Nature camp registration will begin on Friday, March 10, 2006 from 2:30-4:30pm at the Broadlands Nature Center. A staff member will be available to discuss the camps with parents. We will not accept registrations before this time. Registrations can also be mailed or dropped off at the Nature Center beginning Monday, March 13, 2006. A completed registration form and full payment is due at the time of registration. For registrations received before May 26, 2006, the cost per child is $120. For registrations received after May 26, 2006, the cost per child is $135. Registration forms can be picked up from the nature center. For more information please call 703-729-9704.

    Nature Storybooks
    Monday, June 26 - Friday, June 30, 2006, 9am-12noon and
    Monday, July 10 - Friday, July 14, 2006, 1:15-4:15pm
(For children entering pre-K or K in Fall 2006; your child must be at least 4 years old by May 1, 2006)

Let’s make our favorite nature storybooks come to life! In this camp, we will use stories such as The Lorax and The Mitten to help us explore the forest, pond and meadow at Broadlands and learn about the wonderful plants and animals in them. We will also play games and make crafts to enhance what we learn.

    Home Sweet Home
(For children entering 1st through 2nd grade)
    Monday, June 26 - Friday, June 30, 2006, 1:15-4:15pm and
    Monday, July 10 - Friday, July 14, 2006, 9am-12noon

Whether it is a two-story house or a rotten log, every living thing needs a place to call home. Campers will discover what all organisms need to survive as we search for plants and animals throughout the nature center habitats. Each day we will hike the grounds, play games and make crafts to take home.

    Web of Life
(For children entering 3rd and 4th grade)
    Monday, July 17 - Friday, July 21, 2006, 9am-12noon

Plants, animals, water, soil and sun, all of these things are connected together in the great web of life. In this camp, children learn how these elements interact with one another and how the web is maintained, affected or broken. Games, activities, crafts and hikes will emphasize basic ecological concepts and will help children develop a better understanding of their environment and their role within it.
