Since finding out that Puccios closed down, I've really felt like I've lost a close friend. We'd go there every weekend and get sandwiches after church and enjoyed seeing pictures of Christians baby and seeing neighbors and catching up with everyone.

I'm so affraid that this area is finally going through not a recession but an economic cooling off period and we run the risk of losing many other small family O&O restaurants and business.

I purpose we all pick a night in the future and spend an evening at a locallly owned--not chain--restaurant. Then we can report back here on the service, food and atmosphere. We've got nothing to lose and everything to gain. We support a local business and maybe find a few new favorite restaurants in the process.

Anyone up for trying this on some random night in February???

I started last night by going to American Flatbread. It was great, as always.

this ties in to EXACTLY why i started my website- if you all also post how feel about these places there- it not only reaches THIS audience, it reached those who visit my site from Brambleton, the Farms, the Village, Cascades, and those who find me via the washingtonpost.com blogs.

the big chains have thousands in marketing dollars and brand awareness to get business- it's places like Puccio's that benefit from watercooler chatter about how great they are!

if you plan to hit Cafe Rumi, Mezza Grill or Anothai, stop by my site for a coupon!

i'm in- i hope to go to Callaloo tonight or tomorrow night.

FYI went to Anothai for the first time tonight and the waiter seemed to think the free appetizer offer is not good any longer.

Big fan of Anothai. Their menu seems more Vietnamese and Chinese influenced than Bangrak, our other favorite Thai in the area, so good room for variety.

We definitely do our part trying to help out local restaurants, but it's impossible to look at this area and not see that there are just too many restaurants.

It's so funny that you say there are so many restaurants in the area. I've lived in Ashburn for 15 years and when we first moved out here there was NOTHING!! We went to either the twin cities of Reston/Herndon or we went to Leesburg for food. My God, there wasn't even a Giant nearby!! Ok, now that I've outed myself as the oldest person on these forums I'll get on with my original thought.

I'm taking next weekend (the first weekend in February) and making every meal we eat out that weekend a local-restaurant only experience. This will be hard as the hubby and kids enjoy the chain-restaurant slop they've come to know.

I may actually make this a first weekend of the month tradition at our house. If I come across something outstanding I'll post it and let Redon know about it so she can post something on her FANTASTIC website (by-the-way nice work Redon--the foot must be feeling better--it must have been my home-cooked meal (ha, ha).

I'm looking forward to doing this and hope all my forums friends will join me in supporting our local establishments!!

are YOU one of my suburban angels?!? lol what ever you cooked I only got a small portion of- the boy and the man would feed themselves before passes crumbs under the door to me... ;)

back to the topic- your making it a tradition is EXACTLY how we got our son to have such a diverse palate! when they studied Rome in school we took him for his first gyro and dolma- he LOVED it. we discussed Korean food after tae kwon do one night- now bulgogi is one of his favorite foods. we had to use fear factor to get him to try sushi but it worked... lol

Nah. I wasn't planning on using it on our meal, was just going to get an appetizer to take home for tomorrow, but he said he thought the offer was no longer valid and I didn't try to argue with him or anything. No big deal, just thought you might want to know.

    Grahamiam,

I'm sorry about the confusion from our staff. They thought it's coupon from Clipper which we no longer advertise on. We do honor the coupon from Aphioni. Please think of Anothai next time you feel like Thai food.

Oh no no no - I win - 16 years ago I moved to Ashburn Farm. They hadn't even laid cable yet - a few months after we moved in we got home to see our back yard had been dug up for the brand new cable!

It is strange to see the now overadundance of places to eat in Ashburn. I remember quietly begging for YEARS to get an Indian restaurant and now we have 3! (unless any new ones have moved in)

Psh! I used to race my '70 Mustang on Rt 28 from the Holiday Inn to Church Road back in the '80's. The Sheriff's department monitored the start line and the State Boys called the race at the finish.

Then we went and busted WompRats in our T-38's.

    LOL!

So the next local restaurant I plan to support is that wonderful Indian place that finally answered my prayers - Banjara (Oh, PLEASE don't anyone tell me that they have closed).

they will be alive and well- any ethnic restaurant where ppl of that ethnicity eat is usually a great one! We hot Banjara monthly- the lunch buffet is excellent.
