Bravo!!!!! and well said. I have been fighting the teen haters in this neighborhood for years and absolutely live for the days when their darling little ones grow up and need somewhere to "hang out". Of course, once they start driving the hostilities really crank up, because the same parents who appear to worry about the teens on the "tot lots" (which some of us refer to as playgrounds) are the very ones letting their children play in the street and complaining about cars on the road. After the age of 11, it is assumed you are a beer drinker, drug user, vandaliser, wreckless driver - astonishing that these are the same outstanding students graduating with honors and advanced degrees from Briar Woods High School.

Wait a minute..."wreckless"? Meaning no car accidents or do you mean to say "reckless"?

By the way, Briar Woods has "advanced" degrees?? Or do you mean simple Diplomas? High schools across the nation don't award "degrees" ...they just award a simple Diploma.

Capricorn1964 - thank you for the grammatical corrections to my posting, obviously my frustration with this particular topic overrode my attention to detail when proofreading my entry.:)

Loudoun County does in fact have a "Standard Diploma" as well as an "Advanced Studies Diploma" which has more rigorous requirements (i.e. 4 years of math vs. 3 and 3 or 4 years of Foreign Language vs. 0*)

Your sweet teen is probably fine all by themselves or in front of you. It is when they are with other teens and out of YOUR sight that they become insufferable ;). As for the "tot lots", yes, some of us are talking about TOT LOTs. They have 5 foot long slides and those little rocker animals that are appropriate for a child of no more than 50 pounds. Great entertainment for a teen huh?

And before you get all indignant on me, I am more tolerant of teens than most, I remember my days of youth. And this not necessarily about YOUR child, it is a about a small group of teens in the neighborhood.

FWIW, YOU are the one who made some serious accusations about 11 year olds in YOUR post, no one else mentioned drinking or drugs in other posts.

Coming from a college student who grew up in Broadlands, there is absolutly no where for teenagers to hang out at in Ashburn, VA. When we are not at work and do not have cars we have no where to go at all. I am not saying it is appropriate for a bunch of teenagers to be getting in the way of little kids who have ever right to play but, where do you want us to go?

You already call the cops on us for cutting through your backyard so we can get to our friends house faster and you have to remember that teenagers are NOT curtious and do NOT think that homeowners get upset about this type of stuff. Teenagers like to swing. Teenagers like to be with their friends and a LOT of parents do not want 5 teenagers over at their house so where else are they suppose to go?

Teenagers sit at parks when they are bored, when they have nothing else to do, and when they want to relax with each other. I have never had a friend wreak anything at a park, graffti anything, or even drink at a park. Their will always be a small group of kids who do this and they ruin the name for teenagers all over.

I wonder if Capricorn1964 would agree how well that was stated, grammatically speaking of course.

I mean maybe if teenagers were courteous and respected private property more, homeowners would be less inclined to "call the cops" when they aren't "doing anything".

Personally, I am not a fan of kids jumping the community fence in my back yard, risking injury that I would be liable for, damaging the community property and running through my landscaping that I paid a lot of money for just so they can save a few minutes getting to a friends house. Since when did my legal rights as a tax payer and home owner get over ruled by kids that don't want to be inconvenienced?

I have no problem with kids hanging out. That is what kids do. I just would hope that they would respect others as they would like others to respect them. It's just that simple.

I totally agree with you on this. After moving here, I've already had some kids "tape" my gate doors shut as if they thought it was funny to do along with taping my garbage can shut too. I didn't think it was that funny...They did that to a few other folks as well and we all think the kids have TOO much time on their hands. Luckily, I didn't catch them because if I had, I would simply have called the cops and have them call their parents to have them come over and ask them why aren't they supervising their kids with the shennigans they are pulling on us.

These "bored" teens need to volunteer their time helping others instead of trying to pull pranks on us adults just for fun, which I didn't ask for....

Wow you got off easy. I had "bored" kids play dumpster baseball with my trash can and mailbox. Cost me $100 and a weekend of my time to repair my mailbox and post and it still isn't quite right.:angryfire:

You've got to be kidding me!! You ought to put a security camera up....That's what Im intending to do soon...IF my camera captures any of these kids causing havoc around my house, I'll be turning over the images to the police and pressing charges. I don't play games with this crap. These kids need to learn how to respect other people's properties. PERIOD. :nono:

My most recent "activity" was to have someone remove the nozzle from my garden hose and leave the water running all night - on my back patio - of my fenced yard. This along with 10-15 empty beer cans by the path behind my neighbors house. Yes, LCSO was called. The officer who responded was not surprised. Apparently, this goes on a lot more than what you see on the forums. I was a teen too and had my share of "fun", but in watching how hard my widowed mom worked to maintain our home, was very respectful of others and their property.

woe is me... there is nothing to do in this town of thousands of people with hundreds of businesses and all the money the families have around here... woe is me

    whatever

When you grow up in the sticks with no real people you age living around you.. and no where to go unless someone drove you for 30mins... and you only have dial-up internet.. then you might get some sympathy.

    Here? No way.

ha ha. and this is exactly why I hate Ashburn, VA. Because of STUPID people like you that have nothing better to do. I am deleting my postings and NEVER posting on this website again. You don't know where I came from, you don't know how POOR my family was, and you don't know that I worked a full time job all throughout high school while maintaing a 4.0 so I could afford to buy food for myself.

I'm sorry you think everyone in Ashburn, VA is loaded with money but, some of us moved here over 20 years ago when the houses were not so mad expensive. I'm sorry I posted my opinion and it will never happen again.

IMHO - I think it comes down to parents not parenting their children and not being involved with their kids lives. If a parents knows their child's friends, then they would know if their child is hanging out with the wrong crowd.

Can you hold on a second... I need to wipe the tear from my eye...

Good for you. But when we are talking about our neighborhood.. and teens in our neighborhood.. I think it's pretty safe to assume the 'what there is to do' arguments are focused on our neighborhood and our neighbors now - not '20 years ago'.

And even 20 years ago - this is still an area very close to mature suburban life. My 8th grade class had less then 10 people in it. The biggest thing I looked forward to at christmas as a kid was driving the 90 minutes it took to get to the closest mall and Toys R Us. Many people grow up with the nearest neighbors being MILES away.. and no kids at all.

I'd still put Ashburn 20 years ago up against where most people grow up. The 'there is nothing to do argument' is so tired and lame.

Besides.. from your tale you say you moved here 20 years ago, worked full time, and still went to school - so I think your time was already preoccupied. I also find the age people put in their registration records quite intriguing vs the stories they tell in their posts.
