    Howdy,

After cutting the grass yesterday we had these little flying things all over the place. I caught a couple and sure enough termites.

Does anyone have a recommendation for an exterminator. We've been in the home for over 10 years now and I've done the pest stuff myself but termites are way beyond my ability.

    Thanks

We used to use Superior Pest (but I think they changed their name). They trench around the foundation and offer a 1 year warranty which you can extend for more money. I'm pretty sure termites are all over the area and only really a problem if you find them close to the house (like the mulch) but I could be wrong.

Yes, termites occur naturally in our area. Even if you get a treatment plan, you will find them outside --especially if you're near woods or other "natural" area, just think what hardwood mulch is to the them -- a buffet! The pest control treatment is to prevent them from becoming an inside issue.

    Thanks for the info,

yeah these were close to the house on our patio. We are not that close to any of the preserve areas and I've never seen them in the 10 years we've been here. Probably a good idea to have a pest place at least look to see if there really is a problem.

    Thanks!

A friend who lives in Vienna, applies the baiting station/stakes and every so many years has a professional come to do an accessment. So far the stakes are doing their job without having to apply a liquid termiticide. He said he purchases the baits at Home Depot for you diy'ers.
