I need a recommendation for someone to take our old toilet out and install a new one.

Have you thought about doing it yourself? My grown son who doesn't have a ton of home repair skills and owns an older townhouse did his own a year or so ago. It's actually pretty simple. Otherwise, just call almost any plumber. It's not a job that requires a whole lot of skill.

It is much easier than you think to install yourself.

Its SOOOOO easy to put in a new toilet....taking it out is also a breeze too. It is FAR cheaper to do it yourself instead of paying someone to do a very simple job. Plumbers charge an arm and leg these days because they can.

I agree, it is a simple undertaking.

    1) shut of water, flush the tank, unbolt it, and remove old unit

    2) scrape up old wax seal off of the drain

    3) add new bolts to drain (get breakaway bolts, so much nicer to simply snap off the excess rather than having to take a hacksaw to them

    4) press the new wax seal underneath new toilet so it's stays put and drop it down onto drain, pressing down to start the seal.

**Word of warning here, once you drop it down do not lift it back up**. You can nudge it left and right to get the tank parallel with the wall, but if you lift it up you will break the seal and will need a new one.

Trusting that its sealed once the toilet is down is not easy, but if you dropped it over the bolts and the wax ring was adhered to the base, it will seal properly.

    5) bolt it down, fill it up and flush a few times to check for leaks. Once that's done - seal the base with silicon and your good to go.

Maybe a 30 minute effort front to back.

Another vote for doing it yourself if you've got someone to help you carry and place the toilet itself. Word to the wise - grab a trashbag or something to put under the old toilet once you pull it up. Otherwise it will drip all over your floor or carpet as you move it out.

But, if you can't do it for whatever reason any plumber should be able to handle it. Good luck!

+1 to doing yourself. If you choose not to, call Peed Plumbing (yes.. that is the name), or Wacker Plumbing. I have had services from both, and no complaints. Toilet installation is typically a fixed price job, they should be able to give you a price over the phone.
