I have a neighbor who is keeping her "totaled" car in her driveway. The tags are still valid, but the thing hasn't moved in months. I don't want to create animosity with my neighbor, but it is an eyesore.

    Thoughts?

maybe try the HOA so it can be kept neutral. I would think this could be a covenants issue.

We have a neighbor with one car that has tags removed on the driveway and another one not registered in county.

I know to park on the street you need to have tags and registered in county but what about driveway ?

    Thanks !

Any chance they are fighting with the insurance company and waiting for a settlement?

Contact Wes or Maureen at the Nature Center. Let them handle both concerns.

KaosDAd is allowed to park his car with the cover on it in our driveway when it is not in use as long as tags are not expired or it is not on concrete blocks. Son at Tech gets the other garage space....until next year....

Did you try talking to them? It's been known to work. Simply start by asking, "What happened? Is everyone okay? What are you going to do with this?"

It's amazing how much open communication can solve.

Still needs property tax stickers - even if not on public streets. Even if you kept the car in the garage, you'd still need a sticker.

Tried that. Do not want to make enemies with my neighbors. That is what the HOA is for.

They made a joke about it and walked away. I couple of other people have commented to them, and the person keeps avoiding the issue.

You say the car is totaled, what is your definition of totaled? One persons totaled is another persons "fixer upper".

OK, so now my smart*** comment is out of the way, the last time I looked into something like this was in MD and the County rules state that a motor vehicle must be able to move atleast one foot under it's own power every 24 hours. I think Loudouun also has this type of law regarding vehicles. If the car can do this, still licensed and tagged then there may be nothing you can do about this until the tags expire. Now if it leaking fluids then you may be able to have something done since the storm drains lead to the Bay.

It probably runs just fine. It's a late 80's Acura, so any damage would total it. If they were going to fix it up, fine, but it has just been sitting there for months.

You may be stuck looking at it until the owner decides what else to do with the car.

We have a van across the street that has tags and plates up to date but has never moved for over a year. Once in a while the owner comes out and starts it up and lets it run for a while, but it's never driven. Wouldn't you think they would just sell it and not spend money on keeping it insured and legal??? If they ever get rid of it I might not be able to find my own house.
