I notice there is no power meter installed yet for the lights. So, I'm guessing we're waiting for Dominion Power to install power(?). I've never seen anything like this!

Actually, everything has been inspected by VDOT and approved, now Dominion Power needs to install the meters, and that should happen whenever they get around to do it.

Anyone know if Wynridge and Claiborne will be slated for a light? I am asking ahead of time seeing how long it took to get one at the Safeway. Eventually once the stripmall is built this will be a major intersection near a school and will be a real problem area. I almost got side swiped crossing Wynridge to Ridgeway by a commercial truck on Claiborne that did not want to stop at all when they turned onto Ridgeway. I had to honk my horn as they nearly missed me and they got really angry at me! HA!

As Van Metre is making that stretch of road the 'main entrance' to Broadlands (watch for major entrance waterfall/landscaping type thingie close to the Ryan Road/Greenway intersection this summer), I would hope so. We can verify this with the developer.

Great more things for us to pay for when it becomes homeowner controlled....

    hberg-
Yes, that intersection is programmed for a traffic light. I don't believe the warrant study has been submitted yet to VDOT by the Developer.

    beahmer-
That entrance feature will be paid for and maintained by the Broadlands Commercial Property Association. Residents will not pay for it out of their Association fees.

Anybody have any idea when Dominion Power might get around to hooking up power to the lights? Another near miss last night at Broadlands/Claiborne!

They work at the own good time ... however we can see if the developer has any idea.

I thought we already had a water feature at Ryan Road and the Greenway- you know, that patch of pathetic looking wetlands with dead trees and gross looking muck!

Sorry for the rant. I'm looking forward to a nice water feature at this entrance.

Hopefully the water feature is a little nicer than the rock/mountain waterfalls at Brambleton and Lansdowne.

I almost got clipped last night by a car who followed right behind another turning from Claiborne onto Broadlands without stopping. I hope that light comes soon!

Yea - same thing happened to me the other day....another car piggybacked the one in front of him and I almost got hit.......I really hope this light gets turned on before something tragic happens.

    Back on topic:

Latest I heard is that the lights are scheduled to be "energized" by March 17th. This is straight from Dominion Power, so let's hope they're not delayed by anything.

Once the lights are powered, I assume they have to flash for a couple of days before they are finally turned on.

It was funny, the other night going through the intersection we had a car piggy back another one turning from claiborn from the toll road onto broadlands blvd. I watched as the teenager completely ignored me and my honking horn as he just continued through the intersection. I look over to my right and what do I see? A cop sitting right there. HE DID NOTHING. HE let this idiot kid completely get away with this. So much for the cops being present if they won't pull someone over.

Are you kidding me??? That's pretty bad! Maybe he didn't see what happened? I'm hoping that's what it was.....otherwise that's sad that he didn't do anything.

I seriously doubt the cop could miss 2 cars going through the intersection at the same time. The kid completely ignored everything around him. I wish I could remember what kind of car it was.

March 17th is a Friday. From what I understand, they will be turned on to 'flash' for about a week, and that VDOT will (supposedly) start on a Monday with the flashing, perhaps put up a few flashing text signs about traffic updates. Then go live the following week.

Now, that's not saying they may rush all this into action within 5 days, but its been 'hurry up and wait" with this light from the beginning.

I have doubts about this time table. I would guess the driving lane lines and their repositioning or painting is a portion of the hold up. Last I was through there, no work looked imminent on this piece of the puzzle. Somebody should remind VDOT.

VDOT's not doing the work. It's a contractor. I imagine the removing of stripes and painting of turn arrows can be done in a matter of hours- just before the lights go active.

The lights can be turned on "in a matter of hours" too. I assume the contractor is doing the work under contract with VDOT. I am still skeptical,
