I don't believe that one was a county funded light, so he really can't take any credit for it.

And of course, by 'activation' it can mean just blinking !!

There are crews working at the intersection of Claiborne/Waxpool. They are taking off the yellow stripes and making those lanes real turning lanes - they were putting the white arrows down when I went through there about a half hour ago.

Lights are flashing red now. Look out for people to be confused. More so than normal anyway

Well ... it looks like a week of flashing until next Wednesday when then go live.

The Board was told VDOT required that lights start flashing on Monday during a workweek. Of course, what it actually may be is that they have to start flashing sometime during a workweek, with at least one full day of flashing before the weekend ?

Who knows anymore ... in any case ... Broadlands Blvd now has a meter, and is running about a week or two behind what happens at Waxpool. So, perhaps next week we'll get flashed at Broadlands. :moon:

I actually saw pigs flying in circles around the Claiborne/Waxpool intersection this afternoon. Truly an historic day. :band:

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    Contact: Michael Hengemuhle

DULLES DISTRICT SUPERVISOR STEPHEN J. SNOW ANNOUNCES ACTIVATION OF NEW TRAFFIC SIGNAL IN BROADLANDS.

Dulles District Supervisor Stephen J. Snow is pleased to announce that the Office of Transportation Services will be activating a new traffic signal at the intersection of Claiborne Parkway and Waxpool Road on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at 9:30 am. This signal was funded in part by the developers of Broadlands and Broadlands South with a total estimated cost of $182,000. Pedestrian signals have also been provided for individuals using the trails at all four corners of the intersection. The signal timing provides protected left turns at the beginning of each movement with the pedestrian signals activated by call buttons during the through movement.

Too bad they decided to first activate the lights at the intersection where they are needed less. Any word on a timeline for Broadlands/Claiborne?

The time to act then is now considering how long it has taken to get these lights in! Based on the stripmall being built at Wynnridge and Ridgeway, Claiborne, let's get after them to get the light in so we can get it in by 2010.

Please don't at Wynridge/Claiborne it would really decrease our property value - but VDOT will do what and when they deem it appropriate - so if a light goes in - well sell well before it's approved.

It has already been planned and is in traffic studies now. It will definitely be needed to slow down traffic from other developments and allow cross traffic. Crozen Road will be opening up (albeit just a 2 lane) within the next few years and will be pulling traffic from the new developments going in there, it will eventually tie in to Belmont Ridge Rd, which will also bring in traffic, and of course, you've still got all the traffic using Ridgeway to get to Claiborne, and the new commerical center.

That corner is going to be as bad as Broadlands & Claiborne, if it isn't already. Within the next 10 years, you may see Claiborne punched through to Ryan Road. It has always been sited as a direct northern route to Route 7.

As far as property values going down due to the light, I seriously doubt it. The only thing affecting property values in this area is the mortgage rate. Some selling prices are anywhere from 50 to 100k less than they could have been last summer. One house went for about 770K, the same house next door just sold after 8 months for about 60K less.

Well I guess you will be moving then. That intersection will be part of the street leading from the main entrace AND a strip mall with a grocery store. You will be kidding yourself if you don';t think that will set up a danger at that intersection.

That's a good point. Just a little disappointed b/c the sales rep at Van Metre clearly indicated that no such light would pop up...oh well guess we kind of got suckered in...our mistake for not checking with Vdot

Yeah, the phrase "you should have checked the proffers before buying" was hot on this forum when the new construction started four years ago.
