Can anyone in the HOA answer this for me before I ring up Wes Schroeder?

I just got back from biking around the neighborhood when I noticed that all of the single family houses in North Broadlands have these fancy heavy duty AAA trashcans. As a townhouse owner who pays the same garbage fees I'd like one too. I'm not blaming the HOA (yet) because Engle did not do a good job at getting us these things like the recycling bin, HOA guidelines, etc...

So, Cliff, or you other powers that be, how do I get mine? You can't and no is not going to be acceptable.

We live in the townhouses in Southern Walk. When I set up my trash service they asked if I wanted to rent one for $3 a month...

It is provided by AAA Recycling. I believe they provide them free of charge to single family houses only, not townhouses, Broadlands or no. (Surmised anecdotally: My sister and mother both have trash pickup from them and neither has the trashcan. While my cousin and I in our SFHs do.) AAA's phone number is (703) 818-8222.

ARGH! ARE WE SECOND CLASS CITIZENS?! I pay the same trash fee that the SFHs do. I'm so sick of this tripe. All you townhouse homeowners who feel the same way respond here and we'll goto Wes together.

When we moved in to our townhouse 7 years ago, we didn't even get a inferior trashcan. We got bubkus! This is the single reason we are moving to a single familyt home in Southern Walk next Monday! :)

    Homer-
I don't know the answer to your question. I know for the single family homes, they supplied them. I don't use one because they're so big. Can't put two cars and that can in my garage easily.
As to why townhouses don't get them, I don't know. Give Wes a call and he can probably answer it for you.

You're our rep, right? Could you find out? Fundamentally there should be no reason for this. The only answer that would be acceptable is if the SFH pay more for the garbage fee then THs. I pay the fee to the HOA not to AAA. This is the HOAs issue.

I found out about this silly lack of service before we moved in & contacted Wes directly to complain (I know it's only $3 but even without Openband, our HOA dues are significantly higher than our last townhouse and the trash cans were provided there). We got a trashcan and I haven't received a rental bill yet. Sure hope I don't jinx myself.

On a side note, does anyone need a recycle bin? They kept dropping them off so now we have way more than we need. I figured I'd ask before having AAA take them away.

This is not official, but HOA fees can be more for TH. It costs more to maintain TH locations. In most cases, the Association assumes maintenance responsibilities for TH streets, therefore, a significant amount of the fee goes to reserves for street repair, replacement, and maintenance (including snow removal) The streets of SFH are maintained by VDOT, to include snow removal.

JenTimC: I would love getting one of your recycling bins. The one that I "inherited" with this place is all beat up and cracked. Drop me an email at cjfj@gbronline.com so we can try to work out a time to get together. Thanks. cj

Yes, but the garbage fee is the same. Same fee, same service, NOT!

Geez, cut me some slack. I'm sorry, but I can't be the instant answer man for all issues immediately!! :) A call to Wes Schroeder would have gotten you the answer. Which is.......
Early on, these cans were supplied to townhouses. Due to complaints that they were too large, they were eliminated from the program. The cost for the cans was removed from the trash removal service fee for the townhouses. So, to clarify, single family homes pay more for trash removal per unit than the townhouses.

Thanks, Cliff! That is a fair deal. I didn't want to call Wes b/c I've called before and I don't want to be on the list of nuisance callers.
