Time for Broadlands to succeed from Ashburn and become a town?

The way people whine about our itty bitty special assessments.... imagine the crybabies when you had to actually fund a government.

No. There are ONLY 7 towns in Loudoun County: Middleburg, Leesburg, Hamilton, Round Hill, Lovettsville, Hillsboro, and Purcellville. That's it.

Kaos, you are not reading the entire sentence.

All that being said, there is something the HOA could do. We could increase the number of security patrols. we can hire security folks with arrest/detain authority. All of this costs money that would, of course, only come from raising HOA assessments.
The HOA is getting ready to start its budget process. If you want to see more money spent on security, now is the time to plead your case.
This forum is not the place to do it. Contact the Board, attend HOA meetings, and let us hear from all of you that want more done and how much you are willing to pay for it.

Absolutely! I'd pay more in HOA dues to have more security patrols!!

We do step it up at various times through out the year based on past history. What Cliff is talking about is looking at even more steps up - ie 4+ guards on property at a time, guards who are authorized to conceal carry, 24 hour surveillance, etc.

Remember, this is a big community. We cold have 1-2 security staff on duty at all times and there would still be a limited ability to catch anyone. Odds are, if there is enough activity going on, they will catch some of it.
So how much more are you willing to spend? Can you rally a significant number of folks to agree with you?
Rough example: 1 person on duty 8 hours a day through the year equals about a $2.40 increase in the monthly assessment. Is it worth it?

What is our current security company's scope (where are they patrolling, how frequent etc)? Are they consistently liaising with the HOA or LCSO Community Officer to step up patrols in the areas that have been identified as "problematic"?

Is this company actually patrolling the streets of the neighborhood or are they limited to the HOA structures (nature center, pools etc)? If not...do we have an option to amend/mod the SOW of our current contract?

    yeah! what SHE said!:agree:

and maybe the focus should be where the problems are- every area of the broadlands isn't having problems, so my gut says at least some of the nogoodniks live near the problem areas.

We just hired a brand new company as of July 1 who has a lot of experience with multiple HOA's to the point they were able to help Cascade and Countryside resolve a lot of what we are dealing with today. To my knowledge they have called the LCSO on at least 8 occasions to help patrol when an issue has been spotted. Plus I talk to the officer on duty nightly sometimes as many as 4 times in a given shift and have done multiple ride a rounds to show them areas we (the HOA) want a higher presence.

As for where they patrol, they are on the streets, paths, tot lots and community buildings and the emphasis changes based on the community needs. The new company has reported a lot of the vandalism to me and the LCSO sometimes long before even the residents are aware things have occurred. Our officers have witnessed 1 group but were unable to catch them so for now all known information has been turned over to the sheriff's dept to investigate in hopes of bringing this to an end.

Kaos, please re-read the sentence... Yes, we have over 1000 residents, but we never became a town as provided by law.

You're reading the sentence piecemeal - the key statement is "become a town as provided by law." WE HAVE NEVER BECOME A TOWN AS PROVIDED BY LAW.

There was a squad car parked on our street last night for about 30 minutes around 11:40pm. I heard him talking to someone out there but couldn't see anything.

Not sure if something was going on or he was just patrolling but I was happy he was out there.

Are these security patrols like undercover in unmarked cars? Because I have never seen any security patrol in the 10 years I have lived here. Do they patrol only in certain areas at certain times and not the whole community?

'Scuse ME for asking QUESTIONS to try and SOLVE a problem

    THERE...BETTER?

Of course - half that will be edited out becuase I'm just a pleb.

I will restate: There appears to be no statute prohibiting the HOA from imposing a curfew.

(He types whilst staying up to protect property).

Wow, I'm speechless. I don't think you have any intent in discussing this like an adult, so I'm done here.
