We used a diaper genie as well. Not a perfect system, but certainly much better then just dropping them in the open cans.

I have been lurking on this thread since the beginning as I have very strong opinions about HOAs in general, our specifically and have lots of experience with them from the wrong side of the court room. This HOA is SO far from unreasonable - like from here to Pluto far from. Let me give you examples of unreasonable:

I lived in Lake Ridge from 1987 - 1992 in Lake Ridge it was illegal to own a motorcycle. If you had a fender bender on the way home, you could not park in Lake Ridge. You could not park any kind of panel van in LR, it had to have at least one window on both sides of the cabin. They had up to 5 years to REVOKE a previously approved change. If you did not reverse the change within 30 days, the HOA had the right to remove the disapproved change regardless of any negative impact to you.

Now, in a HOA close-by, you could not plant a flower w/out HOA approval. The application needed to include "aprofessional landscape rendering" and photos showing before and "an approximation of after." Sorry, not everyone is a photoshop wizard.

With the SW HOA I have found that a Kind Word is much more effective than anything else. Have you tried that yet?

Thats a good idea, I just use water and soap, but the Baking soda would probably work a whole lot better. Thanks for the info

Yes mine smells! Also, "tucked behind the bushes" is not adequate according to our board. I know, because that was where my can was! Only my neighbor could see our can, and I know that they didn't complain, because they got a letter for putting their can where only we could see it!

Hi, interested in this answer too....

I have yet to have formal dealings with the HOA here, but based on experience with past HOAs and COAs, and based on the rules I received when I moved in here, Broadlands seems pretty reasonable by comparison.
At least Broadlands HOA doesn't want keys to my front door and my car.

Good. I happen to be a Broadlands resident that thinks this SHOULD be vigorously enforced and frankly, am disappointed that the HOA has been flexible at all in allowing outside enclosures.

Oh-let me give you one, too!!! My former boss lived in Rockville and his HOA decided (10 years after the community was established) that PICKUP TRUCKs were too unattractive and "downmarket" in appearance. From then on, if you had a pickup, it had to go in your garage. No parking outside. And believe me, they vigorously enforced it with a TOW service.
