My dyson animal may have bit the proverbial dust, but before I hop out and buy a new one I'm thinking maybe I should try to get it repaired. But I don't have the first clue about where to go for said service. Any recommendations?

There's a vacuum repair place over next to the Ashburn Farm Giant. Can't remember the name of it, but it's the only vacuum place there. They repair and sell vacuums. The owner is very nice and will do what he can to service your vacuum. He's VERY knowledgeable about vacuums too.

sharse - do you remember where you purchased your dyson?

We got ours from Sharper Imag, they have been kind of enough to replace our unit when it went on the fritz. Otherwise I can send you the customer service #.

That would be ACE repair by the Giant. They do seem really nice, I just hate that every time I go in there they try to sell me a Miehle (or whatever) telling me that my Dyson and Hoover are plastic and thus...no good.

Pea - I bought it at Sears in Nashua, NH, right before we moved down here... so... just over 4 years ago. Maybe I should look for a warranty?

Dysons are warrantied for 5 years. If you contact the company they will refer you to the vacuum place by Giant & Little Gym at no charge.

I brought my Miele to Ace near Giant in Ashburn Farm for a cleaning/tune up; nothing was wrong with it. It came back with problems that didn't exist before and it didn't work as well. I was suspicious that they wanted me to bring it back again for more expensive repairs. So I brought it somewhere else - Potomac Vacuum in Leesburg near Walmart. They confirmed that someone had opened up the vacuum and a part was missing, plus there were some minor part changes that were due. For a reasonable price it works much better. I would go back to Potomac Vacuum , not the place in Ashburn.

I was going to recommend Potomac Vacuum also but I didn't know if they took care of Dyson vacuums. Ours is a Miele from Potomac Vac and I love it.

I was without it for about a month when it was in for repairs. I was fighting with Miele to cover the repairs because the vacuum is only 3 years old and had some problems that I didn't think it should have yet. The lady from Potomac Vacuum, Barin (?) and her repair guy, Angel, did a fabulous job we were just going back and forth with Miele to get it repaired more cheaply. I would totally share my vacuum with you but I think you have a cute kitty and I am allergic to them. I am not sure if that would be a good idea for my allergies.

    sharse and others--

For vacuum repairs, check out a company called Vacuums Unlimited (a store is located in Leesburg by Greenberry Tea's store in the strip mall). We bought a Riccar vacuum from them (similar to Miele) and the owners are great as well as their vacuum services.

Vacuums Unlimited is a franchise business and their web site is below--

    www.vacuumsunlimitedvirginia.com (Vacuums Unlimited's site/info.)

Even though we have hardwood floors throughout our farm house, Miele and Riccar vacuums are well-known for their great suction as well as allergen relief usage. Check them out--our vacuums (we bought 2) was around $600 each.

    Good luck--

    sharse and others-

CORRECTED INFO FOR VACUUMS UNLIMITED--STORES ARE IN N VA NOT LEESBURG, VA AREA. THE VACUUM STORE IN LEESBURG, VA IS THE STORE NEAR GREENBERRY TEA AT THE STRIP MALL.

Vacuums Unlimited are in Fairfax, Herndon, Chantilly, and other areas. No web site for The Vacuum Store that I could find. I will post info if I do. Both for great service, etc.

According to my paperwork, it is warrantied for 2 years only.

Did you ever get it fixed? At Ace Vacuum? Would you know how much it wold cost to have them look at it? I bought a REFURBISHED dyson from amazon. com, so I'm not covered by warranty - my dyson was making sounds this weekend and I'd like to have it serviced. Thanks.

Any input on where to have my dyson serviced would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I actually never did take it in and have it serviced. I took it apart, gave it a good cleaning, found a little piece of rubber that was wearing and dragging, so I removed that and it stopped the noise.

bird, when did you have this experience - with the old or new owners?

Stopped in at ACE to buy some bags and found out that the place sold and is under new ownership. This was shortly before Christmas when they put out that awful blow-up vaccuum that makes the place look like a used car lot:scaredeyes:

Well, they were out of the boxed bags so the owner just gave me one to carry me over until the next shipment. It was a nice gesture considering the cost of the bags...but considering what bird said, I'll think twice about going there for repairs.

I looked up Potomac Vacuum and there's also one located in Ashburn on Beaumeade Circle. I tried calling Potomac Vacuum (Ashburn and Leesburg) but no one answers and no machine pick up.Anyone have experience with vacuum repair here or the new owners of Ace?

I haven't been to potomac vacuum in a while but the last time I was at the one in Leesburg they said the Ashburn location was just for packing for their website operation. They also run http://www.vacuums24x7.com/. I also think they have a very limited staff so the guy who does the repairs also answers the phone and may not be able to pick up all the time. ETA I just checked out the website further and it says they are new owners so now I don't really know if I would recommend them or not.
