Do they have the course online anywhere? I'm signed up for this and want to start running to actual course, but can't find it anywhere?! Anyone know?

    Thanks!

Interesting that a company thinks they can run a race on private streets without the authorization of the owner of the streets.

Don't they still control the HOA? ;)

And I for one think that they are okay to do but it does get irksome that they do it on the same streets just about everytime. I can't get out of my section without being impacted.

    No, that can be so?

I kinda like it, I love to go and cheer people on, and throw rocks at the people I don't like (just kidding) . It's fun to watch, however sometimes it would be nice if they varied the route.

SO, what your saying Cliff is that the organization that is putting on this race has not approached the board about doing it. What about the Triathlons? Did they ever get approval or at least ask about it?

Doesn't matter if they control the HOA. Van Metre IS NOT the HOA.
For example, Van Metre makes the HOA issue a waiver of liability anytime we do something on their property (such as Broadlands Live!).
If someone trips on a street owned by the HOA, they can hold the HOA liable....even thought the HOA never authorized the use of the streets for the race.
They did this last year without HOA authorization. I pointed out to Van Metre that they ran their race on private streets without HOA approval. I told them that was not acceptable.
    Now, they're doing it again.

It shows to me their arrogance in thinking that they own the HOA and can do whatever they want. But it's the residents that they are putting at potential risk.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the triathlons did indeed get approval.

Poor baby. Just sit in your front yard and offer us drinks as we run by. (It will be all of an hour.)

Cliff, could you do me a favor

    1) ask them (Van Metre) to control/monitor the parking on BOTH sides of the (private) streets. This greatly impacts visibility.

    2) ask them to pick up after the event, such as Starbucks cups & water bottles.

    3) remind viewers that viewing on private property is not the best option.

Don't make me that cranky nieghbor, (as in last year) when I had to pick up the common area and our side yard after the event.

This is race is done to benefit Children's Hospital each year (I ran it last year and it was a wonnderful experience). don't you think we could be a little less nit picky on what "approvals" have or havent been obtained for something that lasts less then half a day in an effort to support this fantastic organization? We should be proud that our neighborhood has the opportunity to help children in need.

Has nothing to do with who it benefits, it's the fact that Van Metre use's it as a "good will" media machine for them, and takes advantage of a neighborhood. I think the money they spend on marketing, t-shirts, and other stuff they do to splatter their name all over this would be better spent just donating the money right to the cause.

The idea behind the race is to get the community involved, not just Van Metre. Although it is a good PR piece for them, you can't deny that, it does make a significant difference as to whom it benefits. The bottom line is that sick children benefit from this day and if that means I have to pick up a few pieces of trash and the road gets blocked for a few hours, I am more then happy to do that. We all need to give a little more and complain a little less.

I agree with you SCoughlin. Van Metre has been doing this for many years and they raise (and donate) a lot of money for this wonderful cause.

I do not think it has anything to do with it being a good cause or not. It has to do with the HOA's liability. Seeing how Van Metre makes the HOA sign all kinds of documents to hold Broadlands Live on their property they should have the same decency to ask (and not assume) to use the private roads so the HOA has a chance to protect ourselves.
Permission will be (and was) granted but they needed to ask.
