Why has our lovely wetlands become a trash dump? I can't understand how folks can be so inconsiderate. What was once a great place to visit with our children has now become a dumping ground for shoes, plastic bottles, bread wrappers and a whole host of other disgusting stuff. Why isn't the naturalist writing anything about it in our newsletter?? And even more, why aren't the Van Metre grounds people cleaning it up?

Most of that trash comes from runoff from the surrounding communities.

We have a small wooded area behind our section that has runoff (and that also eventually ends up in the area you are talking about) and a few of us clean it on a regular basis, mostly from trash and recyclables that are unsecured when put out for pick up.

Hi - I understand but in this case it's clear it's children's shoes, and bread wrappers that have fallen into the pond from people feeding the ducks/turtles. It's difficult to get down into that area to clean it.

Turtles will not hesitate to eat plastic which may suffocate them. Sad.

When I was there last time I thought a trashcan placed on one of the corners of the deck would be a good idea. Wouldn't help with trash that comes from runoff, but many of the plastic bags and bottles might end up in there instead of the pond. Would that be an HOA call or VM call?

That area is owned and maintained by VM. Please contact them with any suggestions.

That being said, since there are 2 VM representatives on the HOA board, I'll make them aware of your suggestion at our next Board meeting on Sept. 13th.

    Thanks!

Van Metre is responsible for the wetland area and the Boardwalk. This property does not belong to the HOA. I will email the appropriate VM person letting them know the concerns.
