    Fellow Broadlands Residents,

We need to install traffic lights at Claiborne Pkwy + Ridgeway/Wynridge Drive to save lives.

I'm a resident in the Broadlands Southern Walk community. I'd like to bring your attention to a very dangerous intersection in Broadlands and that is at the intersection of Claiborne Parkway and Ridgeway/Wynridge Drive. It currently has four way stop signs and it desperately need traffic lights there to ensure that fatal accidents don't occur.

I had a near miss accident yesterday morning (July 18th), the other driver almost t-bone my vehicle on the passenger side. My life flashed in front of me and I thank God that I'm still here. I've spoken with my husband and he said he had lots of near misses at that very intersection. We need to install traffic lights at this dangerous intersection before someone, especially a Broadlands resident, gets killed.

I've just sent an email to our local representative Supervisor Shawn Williams Shawn.Williams@loudoun.gov about this intersection and I've just found the following Leesburg Today article from Friday, August 24, 2012 12:45 pm that addressed this dangerous intersection. http://www.leesburgtoday.com/news/v...11e1-8f9f-001a4bcf887a.html#user-comment-area

I don't know the current legislative status for this intersection; however, I do know that we desperately need to install traffic lights for this very dangerous intersection at Claiborne Pkwy + Ridgeway/Wynridge Drive. Please help spread the words so that we can save lives. Thank you for your help!

    Regards,
    Siu

I have also reached out to Shawn and others, with no response, regarding other roads within the Broadlands community. I constantly contact VDOT about traffic studies and Loudoun Sheriffs about enforcement. No one seems to care but me. I recommend that everyone put pressure on all of these entities until something changes.

I gave up trying to convince the local and state govt folks...They don't really care. I think the only time it'll get installed if someone gets killed, which is kind of sad. But again, people have been killed even when a stoplight is at any intersection. So I think we just have to be defensive drivers all the time.

It is a well-marked intersection, even more well marked since neighbors worked with the State to install even bigger STOP signs. That intersection is pretty much used by local traffic, so it is our neighbors, some of whom likely read and post to this forum, that are driving dangerously and not obeying posted traffic signs. At some point, drivers need to own up and to start demonstrating some good driving judgement.

I think the last thing we need is more non-synchronized (multiple minute) traffic lights. As I remember it, a decade or so ago, DOT did a study on causes of road rage and the number one contributor was people getting frequently stopped at multiple lights; they get frustrated by the sense of getting nowhere.

Some clarity on how to deal with 4 way stop signs with multiple lanes would help; there seems to a variety of styles: one person (per lane) at a time rotating by giving the right of way, all lanes going in opposite directions at the same time while alternating (e.g., north/south, then east/west, then north/south...), I stopped first so I get to go next, wait for everyone in sight to stop before going, I've stopped so I get to go, I don't have to stop, etc.

This is such a bad intersection that the odds of not experiencing some conflict, as listed in the survey above, and provided you use it daily, seem nil - unless you only use it during non-rush hours. Too many folks are in a hurry...

It's not a bad intersection - it's just a bottleneck so many people have to go through as the only practical exit to their neighborhood that people get frustrated with it and careless.

I blame the neighborhood layout more.

A stop light would just try to control the bad drivers more

Agree completely Steve (yet again)... this intersection gets attention because it is a bottleneck and especially for high school (inexperienced) kids during school times. If I am not mistaken, that section of road will be 4 lanes before anything else. People get impatient there because of the bottleneck and then make stressful decisions because we are all in a hurry.

Many in this neighborhood are too busy to stop at stop signs. I just accept that I live around people that must have lives much important than my own. Getting to your destination 15 seconds faster is clearly more important than safety or laws. I tell my kids to assume the cars are trying to hit you and operate accordingly.

Of course, 50% of the automobile accidents are caused by other drivers.

I have easily avoided half a dozen accidents where the other driver was about to hit me due his/her fault. Always stay alert and dont assume all other drivers sharing the same roads as you are also alert. Sometimes, people can get distracted for a few seconds and that is all it takes to cause an accident.

It's very dangerous because you clowns don't know how to negotiate a 4-way stop sign. There's no reason to put a traffic light there other than to cater to the dumbasses that haven't mastered the use of a stop sign....

Traffic circles are great and much more efficient... people just need to learn the rules... but obviously they haven't even mastered stop signs, so...

I am glad someone posted this, this really needs to be taken care of either by a traffic circle or a stop light, i have had many close calls at this intersection because for some reason people dont know how to use a 4 way stop, please make this happen

The other thing is why do we have a 4 way stop at wynridge and exit 6 on toll road, it makes no since and on top of that the stop there is barely noticeable, ive seen drivers go right through it without even slowing down.

This intersection is a piece of cake compared to the four way over by Gold's Gym. There's no comparison. Not even close.
