Is it normal for the outside units - on side of house, to collect a small amount of water around the base? We have it on both ours, and our neighbors have it around one of theirs.

    Just wondering....

We also put in our own thermostats, and I am wondering why filter keeps flashing on one of them, when we have changed the filter. I seemed to have misplaced the directions.

Don't know about the water, but WRT the filter -- you probably need to manually reset the filter indicator on your thermostat. My filter indicators are set to come on after a certain number of days/hours of use. My thermostat doesn't actually know whether I've changed the filter or not, it is just "reminding me" that I need to do so. When you change your filter, you manually reset the indicator for another cycle.

It's probably condensation...it's really hot out.

And it'll keep flashing 'filter' until you reset it on the thermostat...it's just a simple timer, just changing the filter won't get rid of the indicator. You can probably find directions on your manufacturer's website.

No idea on the water, but if you have a Honeywell thermostat, you have to reset the filter timer by pressing "i" until it shows "0 days Air." Push the time up button once to make it reset to 30 days. I just looked it up the other day for myself. (It would be nice if you could set it for more than 30 days -- I'm not about to clean my electronic filters every month!)

I have 2 Honeywells in my house and they are set to 60 days. Guess I'm lucky :)

Every time that stupid filter thing comes flashing I have to go look it up. The one instruction they did not put on the flip down lid lol.

A also replaced the thermostats in my house and was told by the W&E technician that the warranty is now voided. Basicallym he said that anything from the thermostat to the AC/furnace is now my responsibility. We had an issue last week where the technician said that he had to replace the wiring leading from the thermostat to the AC/furnace and since I replaced the thermostat, I had to pay the re-wiring charge ($150). He was out at our house when the AC first needed attention earlier this spring and told me that the wiring was hosed originally (the builders/installer broke the blue wire and, therefore, they used the green wire to get the system up and running) so he would replace it. We've got a 6x8 hole in the wall but we've got new wiring!

Anybody have comments about voiding the warranty if a new thermostat is installed?

What type of warranty do we have on A/C units besides our usual 1 year warranty ?
