    Hi, "y'all"--

In doing research this week online about web-based businesses (food-related) and consulting with some Mennonite friends of ours who have a business similar to what I am proposing, I thought that I would pose and post some questions to the "computer savvy" gurus here on this Forum.

Although, yes--I know about computers and the business of food (especially Mennonite foods, etc.)--who would you recommend or do any of you know of web design companies whose specialty is food, advertising, etc. for web-based businesses? I am working with several people who operate Mennonite-owned businesses--not just food-related--that are assisting me in the business end. For example, buying from food companies (which I already have spoken to), finding grant monies (no loans for us) especially for women entrepreneurs, and other questions that I have about my Cafe/Bulk Foods business. I know about checking for domain names and read redon1's queries for her business; but would still like other info if you would not mind.

Specifically, what I am asking is your opinions about godaddy.com and some of the other companies who do web hosting for your web sites. Who would you recommend nationally and locally for me to research online as well as locally? I realize that I can design my own web site--most likely will--but since the idea(s) that we are exploring would an unique "niche" in the Northern VA areas--I thought I would ask those of you who have web-based companies.

I already know about business licenses, permits, etc. for food sales on the Internet, etc.; but was curious if any of you had any experience specifically with food-based web businesses or knew of anyone or company that did. I have great contacts for building and construction the Cafe idea, finances, etc.; but curious if any of you had info on food-related web businesses. I have all the food purveyors/suppliers lined-up and as soon as we work the details we should be ready to go. I am working with some consultants (not just Mennonite business people) but food specialty companies.

Yes, I have a business plan; but I am still in the "early stages". Most likely, the business will be web-based Mennonite/Amish products, foods, etc. Still looking at all angles and what would be cost-effective, etc. We are also looking at opening a "brick and mortar" store to compliment our web-based food business.

You can PM me if you wish. Thanks again for helping me. I am more Food Science/Nutrition-oriented and "people person" than a computer guru. Hubby is out of town on business for a month so I am trying to get answers on my own.:happygrin::confused:

    Hi, Computer Gurus--

I need to ask several questions regarding my new "soon to be launched" web site for our Mennonite business. Right now, I am working on getting the web site "off the ground". However, I have some "techy" questions to ask for "y'all's" assistance. Thanks in advance!:)

Hubby is not available; and I wanted to get some feedback from "y'all". Please--:)

First of all, I am considering featuring podcasting and vodcasting on my new web site. In reading some information online about the process (since I haven't done any of this type of "stuff" before), I read up about RSS feeds, podcasts, and vodcasts. Are there any copyright issues if I use these forms of media on my web site since it would be my own "creations"? Do I need "special equipment" for broadcasting or software for my computers?

Second, what books or other places can I go to learn about these media forms; and is hard to learn how to do?

Third, my ideas for the web site is to have my "customers" download cooking demonstrations, informative information on Nutrition, Organic Farming, and other interests related to my business. Is there someone (or company) you can recommend to help me broadcast this on my web site or can I do this myself? Is the cost prohibitive or can I learn this myself by using a certain software program?

Fourth, do you think is a viable option to help consumers relate to my products and business?

Finally, I am consulting with businesses that can assist me. Therefore, I thought if someone had this type of experience with their own home-based company; and I could get some insight of the details of this idea that would enable me to expand my business plans for the future.

Thanks for any assistance and sorry I am not "techy enough". I am more a "hands on and people person" than technical-minded! My uttermost respect to those of you who do this for a profession (like my hubby)!:bow::scaredeyes: I would be happy to PM or meet with any of you for suggestions or information.

Have a good weekend--and thanks again!

    Foodie,

Are you intending to sell goods in an online store (accepting payments securely online)? If so, will you sell B2C, B2B or both? I develop ecommerce sites and would be happy to give you a free consult over coffee some day if you are interested. Just PM me if you are interested.
