In a prior Wegman's forum, I made clear my love of that chain from my youth in Central New York State. Now Consumer Reports has rated Wegman's the #2 "conventional grocery store" in the entire country. I can't wait until they open!

For comparative purposes, Harris Teeter ranked #4, Safeway was #14, and Giant was #21. (Whole Foods and Trader Joe's were ranked in a separate category.)

FYI...Wegmann's was also ranked as the #1 family grocery story by Child magazine. I just scanned the article so I don't really know what they mean by "child friendly" grocery store but I assume they have events and fun things throughout. They may even have (gasp[:0]) shopping carts with safety straps. (unlike some places I know):D

My family and I have been eagerly awaiting the opening of this new Wegman's! I used to live in Rochester, NY, and Wegman's is top quality. I agree with the Consumer Reports rating that jtarnow posted, Wegman's is even better than Harris Teeter! The food is fresh, well-prepared, and better arranged, and the management seems more efficient.

I wonder if it will be open 24 hours/day down here too...

I, too, grew up in Western New York, outside of Buffalo and shopped in Wegmans all the time....they were always a step ahead of all the other grocery stores and very reasonably priced. Just hope they don't jump on the bandwagon to raise their prices because Loudoun County is such a "wealthy" area! I read that they will be open 24/7 down here too and they plan to open in Feb. 2004. I work right across the street from the new Wegmans and will be stopping there on my way home. Can't wait for it to open! It will be awesome!

Unfortunately, they are going to be opening right in the middle of the construction of the Rte. 28/Waxpool cloverleaf. That intersection is going to be a mess for the next two years! Check out the web site, http://www.28freeway.com.

    tyger31,
Did you ever eat at Ted's hot dogs? We had the one in Phoenix, I loved it.

For my money, the best</u> hot dogs were always Heid's of Liverpool (my hometown), although my parents tell me Heid's has since changed its supplier and it's no longer as good.

Oh yes - I certainly did eat at Ted's....they're the best. We still have family up in WNY and I always make it a point to visit Ted's!!!! Other than the Vienna Inn in Vienna, there are no "mom and pop" places to get really good hot dogs. We always bring a bunch of Sahlen hot dogs back with us to NVA! People don't know what a true hot dog tastes like until they've had one of these. And, just for the record....The Buffalo Wing Factory doesn't even come close to the true Buffalo Wings from the Anchor Bar in Buffalo!!!

Tyger31, would you say that the Anchor Bar has the best wings, or La Nova Pizzeria? I keep getting conflicting reports from old friends. I'm taking a friend up there later this year who has never had Buffalo wings before, so I want to go to the right place! I tended to go for wings at The Distillery in Rochester, though.

kentara - take your friends to the Anchor Bar in downtown Buffalo. They are the originators of Buffalo Wings. It's worth the ride down there. The neighborhood isn't that great, but man those wings are the best. Another place we used to go for great wings is Duffs on Sheridan Drive in Tonawanda. But - if your friends have never had wings.....you should take them to the Anchor Bar.....
