Well back when I was an EMT riding on the day shift in another state, most of our calls were for either restaurants, grocery stores and such.

When it comes to knowing what happens in the back, ignorance is bliss :)

I spoke to them about the climbing maze. They said it broke and the company went out of business but that's all the girls working there knew at the time. My son loved that too.

It is very interesting! I was wondering if I am the only one who's being disappointed with Wegmans.

I also think that the assortment and quality went downhill. It used to be my favorite store. Plus, I loved that it has been the cheapest one, too. However, I don't think so anymore. Meat is actually the most expensive in comparison with the local grocery stores like Giant (which I never liked that much before).

Plus, several times I had problems with the expiration dates on their produce that made me wonder who is responsible for missing the expiration dates. They take stuff back with no problems, but it is quite irritating if it happens repeatedly. :nono:
Plus, a couple of times they actually charged me more for an item. Last week they charged me twice as it should be for a bag of frozen broccolis, and one item scanned completely different price (higher than it was really), so I had to spend some more time solving this issue.
Please double-check your receipt before you leave the store.

I have been asking myself lately: "what's been going on with Wegmans and whether I should review my store preferences".
The bottomline is that I agree completely with the author and I hope that the situation will change. I am also looking forward to a new Wegmans on Route 7 - to check the situation there when it opens. :cheerleader:

As for Harris Teeter I think it is actually one of the most expensive stores on almost all items in the area.

But with meat, especially beef, I believe Wegmans and Costco sell choice cuts unlike Giant which sells at best prime cuts. I always hesitate to buy meat which is that much more expensive but when you taste it, you are reminded why there is the price difference.

Whenever I've been looking for a particular brand at Wegmans and I can't find it, I simply go to their customer service counter and fill out a form and list the brand(s) that I am looking for. Each time someone from Customer Service has called me and walked through each item letting me know the status of each. 99% of the time, my brand has been stocked (the one particular flavor of ice cream I was looking for was the only one not added). Perhaps if you're looking for some particular, just contact Customer Service. I've always been pleased with their response!

one visit to Safeway will render any plants useless. i've actually walked in, walked around with a basket to get a few things, and walked back out with nothing b/c the ridiculous reorg makes it impossible to find anything and everything i DID pick up was expired.

    it's a shame- i really was a fan. :(

I hate when a grocery store rearranges their shelves.

It was the reorganization of the broadlands safeway that made me switch to HT. I HATE when a grocery store rearranges their shelves. :angryfire:

I hate it so much that I will stop going to the store. I hope there are some Safeway managers reading this. :devil2:

Did I mention that I hate it when a grocery store rearranges their shelves :angryfire:

BTW, I really hate it when grocery stores rearrange their shelves.

wegman's layout is 10x worse then safeway's. Safeway is still in the midst of their remodel, but besides the drink/chip aisles being unorthodox I haven't had much complaint once they actually finished the shelf change.

I mean.. it can't be any worse then Wegmans... who had SOME water on the soda aisle, then the rest 2 aisles over... and now they've moved the water completely all the way to the back corner.. where I NEVER go.. but now must make a special trip.

I will continue to go to the same grocery store, even if the prices are higher and the products inferior, simply to avoid learning a new store layout. :rolleyes3:
And there is nothing more frustrating than a reorganization of a store you've already become used to! This signals that the store manager wants you to try a competitor.

I don't understand the hype about Wegmans. Grocery shopping is not what I consider a fun adventure, so I don't want to spend the time and energy required to shop there. It's too far away. Getting in and out of that atrocious parking lot is pure punishment. The crowds are ridiculous. On the 2 or 3 times I've braced myself to go to Wegmans, to see what it's all about, I was horrified by the rude customers pushing and shoving. Worst of all, the store layout was new to me and made no sense at all. No amount of savings was worth that horror. Plus, I was entranced by the prepared food area and spent a fortune on one night's meal - so there was no savings at all.

2 cheeses: Beemster VladKaas and Cooper. Try them and you will be at Wegmans weekly for them... I am an admitted turophile!

I love other things too but i addressed them earlier in this thread...

Safeway actually has the best bagels, it's worth a trip just for the bagels...

have you had ASHBURN BAGELS yet? by Bloom- also known as "Karate Bagels" by "Ashburn Insiders"? :) Sageway bagels aren't bad, but the New Yorkers in my household put Ashburn Bagels at the top of the bagel list... :)

Shoppers has the best bagels and donuts in my opinion. Safeway is #2 with bagels according to my husband.

I think Wegman's is liked a lot because they do sell some specialty items that we cannot get around town, i.e., kosher stuff. They have A LOT. They will also do specific cuts of meat, etc. Yes, you pay more, but I think it's worth it for a lot of folks.

I'd have to agree that of the 3 major grocers in our little part of the world, Safeway's are the best. But they dropped my favorite and started outsourcing, so I tried Ashburn Bagel. Redon1 is absolutely correct. Ashburn Bagel gets all our business now.
