I think that overall Wegmans has the lowest prices of the major stores around Ashburn. The specialty items on the right side of the store are a bit expensive but I think that helps them keep prices low on regular groceries.

For example, today I was shopping around for cake mix and Wegmans had one for $1.09. Giant was around $1.50, and HT was almost $2. I went to the Leesburg Target and bought the mix for 97 cents. None of these were store brands, they were either Pillsbury or Duncan Hines.

The advantage of the Shopper's donuts is that they are HUGE!

I so all my grocery shopping at Wegmans. It is absolutely the cheapest and the freshest with the additional bonus of being able to dip into the luxury item ranges too in the deli, etc. Their fresh fish and meats are the best around.

I have noticed that the checkout service has deteriorated somewhat. The service is slower and the attendant who controls that area doesn't seem to be that efficient in keeping things moving.

But still a bazillion times better than giant and safeway! But I have not seen the old management team that used to run the checkout lines so efficiently. I wonder if the best and brightest have been shuffled to the newer stores.

Interesting experience there last night. A woman was attempting to buy something she took out of a multipack so it did not have an individual UPC (I think it was butter or something but it was obvious that it wasn't for individual sale) . The cashier called over the management guy, he shrugged and said "I'll give it to you for a $1" and rang it up. I appreciated his action to get the line moving but his "I don't care" attitude does not bode well if applied to the rest of his job.
